Radiesse: What Is It?
Radiesse is a sophisticated facial filler made of calcium-based microspheres. After being introduced in the skin, these microspheres promote the production of new collagen through the process called collagenesis. As new collagen grows around the microspheres, it adds volume to the facial tissues, smoothing wrinkles and softening deep folds, such as those around the mouth.
Radiesse has been extensively tested and has received FDA approval for use in the United States. Because Radiesse is made of biocompatible substances (materials very similar to those found in the human body), the risk of an allergic reaction to Radiesse is minuscule. Therefore, patients do not need a skin test prior to receiving Radiesse injections. As a precaution, however, Dr. Kincaid recommends that his Radiesse San Diego / La Jolla patients avoid sun immediately after their treatments.
Radiesse: Is It For Me?
Radiesse is used to correct a variety of facial imperfections. Due to its varied uses, patients of all ages can benefit from this facial filler. As one of the most experienced San Diego Radiesse specialists, Dr. Stuart Kincaid performs Radiesse treatments to improve the following conditions:
- Deep lines and wrinkles on the forehead
- Nasolabial folds (lines extending from the nose to the corners of the mouth)
- Wrinkles and lines around the nose
- Certain facial scars
- Hollow cheeks
Many of Dr. Kincaid's San Diego Radiesse patients are delighted to discover that the Radiesse procedure requires less than half an hour to complete. After selecting the injection sites and administering local anesthesia, Dr. Kincaid uses a very fine needle to inject precise amounts of Radiesse in the skin. This is typically completed in about 15 minutes, during which time the patient experiences no or mild discomfort. After the procedure, patients are free to return to their daily activities as the treated areas do not require any special care. Some individuals might experience slight swelling and/or bruising, a condition that usually resolves in several hours.
The results of Radiesse injections become apparent immediately after the treatment. However, due to the unique chemical mechanism of Radiesse, it continues to improve the skin's condition over time, generating long-lasting results. In fact, many of Dr. Kincaid's San Diego / La Jolla Radiesse patients enjoy the rejuvenating effect for up to two years. After this time, Radiesse treatment can be repeated to maintain a radiant facial appearance.
