Please peruse the paragraphs below to learn more about breast augmentation in San Diego / La Jolla and how to enhance the safety of this procedure.
Preparing for Breast Augmentation in San Diego
As a highly experienced San Diego / La Jolla breast implants specialist, Dr. Kincaid strives to perform this procedure in the safest manner possible. This is why he conducts thorough pre-surgical consultations, during which time he evaluates each patient's medical history, current health condition and her aesthetic desires. Dr. Kincaid uses this information to develop a treatment plan that encompasses all of the necessary safety measures required by the condition of each breast augmentation patient.
While every breast augmentation San Diego / La Jolla patient has a unique set of medical concerns and considerations, some of the general safety measures recommended by Dr. Kincaid include:
- Mammograms. Dr. Kincaid typically recommends that patients obtain a mammogram before and several months after the breast augmentation surgery.
- Smoking Cessation. Because smoking negatively affects the healing process, Dr. Kincaid strongly recommends that breast augmentation patients quit smoking well in advance of the surgery.
- Medications. Dr. Kincaid also recommends that breast augmentation La Jolla / San Diego patients stop taking certain medications prior to their procedures. He strongly urges his patients to discuss any medications they are taking with him.
- Anti-Inflammatory Drugs. In addition to prescription medications, patients also need to stop taking certain over-the-counter drugs, such as aspirin and other anti-inflammatory medications as these substances can cause excessive bleeding.
Breast Augmentation Procedure
Dr. Kincaid begins breast augmentation by administering an appropriate form of anesthesia. While some patients prefer local anesthesia with intravenous sedation, others opt for general anesthesia. In addition to patients' preferences, Dr. Kincaid takes into account their health condition and the extent of the surgery when determining the most appropriate form of anesthesia.
After the patient has been prepared, Dr. Kincaid creates several small incisions through which he inserts breast implants. The incisions can be made in one of the following locations: around the nipple, below the breast, in the armpit or in the navel area. The location of the incision depends on the implant size and type, and patients' skin condition and aesthetic preferences. After carefully positioning the breast implants, Dr. Kincaid closes the incisions and wraps the chest in special surgical garments. In addition, he recommends that San Diego breast augmentation patients wear a special bra for several weeks following the surgery to promote proper healing and minimize swelling.
