Breast Augmentation: Which Breast Implants Are Best?

Thursday, June 28th, 2012

Breast Aug photo1 Breast Augmentation: Which Breast Implants Are Best?Breast augmentation is the number one cosmetic surgical procedure performed in United States. In Southern California many would consider the procedure routine because of the prevalence of women who have undergone the surgery. There is an abundance of information available for women who are considering breast augmentation, and thanks to the Internet women who are considering breast augmentation can become confused and overwhelmed by the information rather quickly. Patients who schedule a consultation with Dr. Stuart Kincaid are informed of not only the benefits and limitations of breast augmentation, but also the types of breast implants available and which recommendation is best for them. It is virtually impossible to choose a breast implant as the best recommendation for a patient who has not been examined by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon. Dr. Stuart Kincaid is highly trained with different types of breast implants and explains to patients that the breast implants are “tools” designed to help him achieve the patient’s desired appearance. Using different types of implants, including silicone gel implants, saline implants, different profiles and shapes of implants, allow Dr. Stuart Kincaid to truly customize a breast augmentation that is most likely to meet or exceed the patient’s expectations. It is important for patients to realize that every patient has some sort of breast asymmetry. Some patients have a wider rib cage, others may have a breast fold that’s higher on one side than the other, or some may have a noticeable indentation on the chest wall. These are all situations that will not change based on having breast augmentation, so, Dr. Stuart Kincaid uses his surgical expertise and artistic talent to choose the right breast implant that will give the best aesthetic appearance, taking into consideration the aspects of the patient that will not change with the breast augmentation procedure. Dr. Stuart Kincaid offers breast implants from all three FDA approved breast implant manufacturers. Dr. Stuart Kincaid uses breast measurements combined with the patient’s expectations and desires to make the best recommendation for each patient concerning which breast implants will help them to achieve their desired appearance. In some cases, Dr. Stuart Kincaid may recommend a breast lift combined with breast augmentation for the best aesthetically pleasing result. Dr. Stuart Kincaid encourages patients to schedule a consultation to determine if breast augmentation is a desirable solution for them.

Breast Reduction: Who Should Consider the Procedure?

Thursday, June 28th, 2012

Overweight African American Woman3 Breast Reduction: Who Should Consider the Procedure? For the general public it can be hard to believe that anyone would consider reducing their breast. But, for the countless number of women who suffer from the medical symptoms associated with excessively large breast the concept comes as a relief. Breast reduction is a surgical procedure that can be considered medically reconstructive or cosmetic depending on the patient, and how the excessive breast tissue is affecting their quality of life. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains to patients that a breast reduction could be considered for many different reasons. Primarily most patients who are considering breast reduction have what they consider very large breast that could be causing a number of problems in their daily lives. Most patients are suffering from one or a combination of the following symptoms: back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, groves in the shoulders, and painful, uncomfortable rashes underneath the breast tissue at the breast crease. The breast tissue can be extremely heavy and some experts equate it to carrying two 5 pounds sacks of potatoes, connected by a strap around the neck, to help others understand how cumbersome it can be. In order to reduce the breast Dr. Stuart Kincaid makes an incision around the nipple areola complex where the dark shading and lighter skin tone meet and then and incision that runs down to the crease. Depending on the amount of breast tissue that needs to be removed and other factors, an incision is made in the crease that can range in length. Breast reduction results can vary greatly as they are heavily dependent upon the amount of breast tissue each patient has and many other factors. Dr. Stuart Kincaid helps patients understand what they can expect based on their specific situation. The cosmetic aspect of breast reduction allows Dr. Stuart Kincaid to take into consideration the best aesthetic proportion for the patient. It is aesthetically important for patients to be able to match the bottom portion of their body with the size of their breast after surgery. This can have a compelling effect on choices for their wardrobe as well as their overall appearance. Dr. Stuart Kincaid discusses each patient’s options in detail and helps them to understand the benefits and limitations of breast reduction so that they can make an informed decision. Breast reduction surgery had among the highest patient satisfaction rates nationwide, and Dr. Stuart Kincaid’s practice is no exception. Dr. Stuart Kincaid encourages patients who are considering breast reduction to schedule a consultation to determine if breast reduction is a viable option for them.

Dessert with Breakfast Could Actually Help with Weight Loss

Wednesday, June 27th, 2012

chocolate cupcakes2 Dessert with Breakfast Could Actually Help with Weight Loss Who doesn’t love this story? A recent study indicated that having dessert with breakfast can actually help with weight loss goals. According to a local online article beginning your morning with a high-protein food along with a “dessert” — similar to a doughnut or a slice of cake -could actually help you lose weight and maintain the weight loss, a new study suggests. However, as you might imagine many nutritionists reported they were unwilling to concur with the study’s findings. Researchers from Tel Aviv University’s Wolfson Medical Center in Israel did a comparative analysis of two diet regimens — one was comprised of a low-carbohydrate breakfast, the other included a high-protein, high-carb breakfast — the sweets-with-breakfast participants lost more weight after a period of eight months. “Although dietary restriction often results in initial weight loss, the majority of obese dieters fail to maintain their reduced weight,” reported the study’s authors. Diet-related weight loss often ignites hunger and cravings while reducing suppression of ghrelin, a hormone that ignites hunger, the researchers said. This may actually increase weight gain. But, a high protein and carbohydrate breakfast could help to override these impending changes and prevent obesity relapse, they concluded. The conclusions are scheduled for presentation Monday at the Endocrine Society’s annual meeting in Houston. It is not surprising that these findings are controversial. Regulating food intake especially sweets that the body craves can be extremely difficult. Dr. Stuart Kincaid consults with patients who have made the commitment to a healthy lifestyle including diet and exercise. For these patients it can be incredibly frustrating when there unable to achieve the body contour that they desire. Often they blame themselves and believe that if they tried harder the result would be different. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains that there are many different factors that affect body contour and shape. These include but are not limited to genetics, hormones, and aging. Liposuction is an extremely effective body contouring cosmetic plastic surgery procedure. Liposuction allows Dr. Stuart Kincaid to expertly sculpt the body in most every area. This includes areas that are virtually impossible to change with diet and exercise. Areas like the knees, ankles, upper back, and chin can be sculpted by Dr. Stuart Kincaid with precision and artistic talent helping patients to achieve the appearance they desire. For patients who are concerned about the contour of their abdomen, Dr. Stuart Kincaid may recommend an abdominoplasty if there is a large amount of loose and lax skin. This procedure can be combined with liposuction which will allow Dr. Stuart Kincaid to create a beautiful waist enhancement. Patients are encouraged to schedule a consultation with Dr. Stuart Kincaid to determine if liposuction is an option for helping them to achieve the body contour that they desire.

Indoor Tanners Are Full of Excuses

Tuesday, June 26th, 2012

tanning bed2 Indoor Tanners Are Full of ExcusesIt would be logical to conclude that in this day and age,  there would not be any one who  would try to justify indoor tanning. But, a recent local article found there are a group of diehards who stand by indoor tanning and believe they are not doing anything harmful to their skin or shortening their lifespan. According to the article young people who have decided to use tanning beds excuse the risky behavior with statements similar to: “everything causes cancer these days,” the new study discovered. Approximately 40 percent of more than 500 U.S. college students surveyed reported that they use tanning beds although they are well-informed of the cancer risks linked to ultraviolet (UV) light exposure. And the majorities still choose to do it because they desire to look more attractive, found the researchers from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. “It is really like weighing the risks and benefits,” said study author Smita Banerjee, an assistant attending behavioral scientist at Sloan-Kettering. The students “said there are risks in everything you do, but they are really motivated by appearance enhancement reasons.”  The goal of the study with to find out how young adults found tanning bed use excusable,  so ,Banerjee’s team analyzed questionnaires completed by 218 students, average age 20, who regularly used tanning salons. More than 75% were white, and 88 percent were women. The questions were modified from studies created to better comprehend why people smoke. Students were able to agree or disagree with explanations such as “tanning bed use is no more risky than lots of other things people do.” The most frequently seen excuses for indoor tanning included: “everything causes cancer these days” (59 percent); tanning beds are “no more risky than lots of other things people do” (54 percent); and “it is dangerous to walk across the street” (53 percent). About 48 percent thought they didn’t use tanning beds enough to put their health at risk. The conclusions are reported in a research letter in the June issue Archives of Dermatology. Dr. Stuart Kincaid informs patients who insist on indoor tanning that the dangers are very real. With well over 20 years of experience as an ASPS board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stuart Kincaid has seen firsthand how indoor tanning beds can prematurely age the skin. Younger people may not realize that with indoor tanning bed use the likelihood of looking older even as early as 30 increases substantially. Dr. Stuart Kincaid may recommend injectable dermal fillers such as Restylane, or Juvederm , but the product plumpness in and do not necessarily rid the skin of the deep creases and wrinkles that come from indoor tanning bed use or excessive sun exposure. Dr. Stuart Kincaid may also recommend laser resurfacing which will help to diminish the signs of sun damage, however, the results are limited. Surgical options like a facelift, or brow lift will help the patient to look more youthful however if the patient continues indoor tanning bed use the results will be short-lived. There is no excuse for using a tanning bed, that is worth the trade-off the premature aging of the skin or the health issues associated with skin cancer.

Are Treatments for Migraines in the Plastic Surgeon’s Office?

Monday, June 25th, 2012

women drinking wine2 Are Treatments for Migraines in the Plastic Surgeons Office? For the millions of people that suffer from migraine headaches, it is important to know what triggers them as well as treatments that work to reduce the symptoms. According to a recent local article weather and red wine may be triggers for some patients. According to the article recent research published and presented this week at the annual meeting of the American Headache Society in Los Angeles, both weather and red wine could  trigger the excruciating headaches, but not necessarily consistently for all patients. One admittedly small study analyzed 33 adults in Brazil who referred to themselves regular red-wine drinkers and have come to believe that the beverage had been caused of migraines in the past. They were asked to drink half a bottle (375 milliliters) of a Malbec, Tannat, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot wine from South America a minimum of four days apart. Most of the participants reported having a migraine at the minimum one time within 12 hours of drinking wine; it appears as though certain wines were more likely to cause migraines than others — specifically Tannat and Malbec. Both varieties include higher levels of flavonoids known as tannins, which create red wine’s rich coloring. Admittedly, the study was not a controlled one which must be considered, the lead author Dr. Abouch Krymchantowski, added “I concluded that the wines with the highest content of tannins — Tannat and Malbec — are those which triggered migraines more frequently.” A separate study also being presented at the meeting discovered that outside temperature can also trigger migraines, especially among people who are more sensitive to temperature.  Dr. Stuart Kincaid has consulted with patients under different circumstances who suffer from migraine headaches. As an experienced ASPS board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stuart Kincaid has seen firsthand the benefits of treating patients who suffer from migraine headaches with a combination of cosmetic surgery procedures. It is well documented that for some patients Botox treatments which are FDA approved for the treatment of migraines can help to reduce the symptoms and frequency of the headaches. For some patients combining a brow lift with Botox treatments can also be extremely effective. It is important for patients to note that migraine treatments and the effectiveness can vary greatly from patient to patient. It is unlikely that insurance will cover the brow lift or and many cases Botox treatments for the treatment of migraine headaches. However, it is important for patients to recognize that the cosmetic benefit is a substantial. For patients who suffer from migraines it is not unlikely for them to have a furrow in the brow because of contracting the muscles over time. This will be treated by the brow lift and the appearance of the forehead will be much smoother and younger looking. Botox treatments will also help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the forehead and the crows feet on the outer corners of the eyes, but the results are temporary. Dr. Stuart Kincaid encourages patients to consult with him concerning the benefits of a brow lift combined with Botox treatments so that they may determine if the benefits of the treatment are worth the investment.

smiling older woman2 300x285 Plastic Surgery Blog: Can Your Nose Make You Look Old?It’s no secret that when it comes to looking old, the face is one of the first places people notice aging. But, have you ever considered that a misshapen or large nose could be causing your face to make you look older than you really are? When patients look into the mirror, there more often than not drawn to the imperfections in their face that seem very noticeable to them. For patients who consult with Dr. Stuart Kincaid for a rhinoplasty their nose often tends to be of great concern, when they look at their face in their mirror. There are many different reasons patients may find their nose to be unattractive. For most patients it is the size of their nose and contrast to their face. Patients complain to Dr. Stuart Kincaid that their nose is larger than the rest of their face when they look straight on in the mirror. The same patients are usually concerned about their profile as well. In some cases these patients express that because of the size and shape of their nose and the slight wrinkling on their face seems more pronounced especially in cheek area. They are likely to also point out that their profile causes their chin to look weak because their nose is so prominent and long. As an ASPS board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Stuart Kincaid possesses the skills and expertise to make solid recommendations to patients considering rhinoplasty procedures. The overall goal is to help the patient maintain their most natural appearance while enhancing what is already present. For some patients, Dr. Stuart Kincaid may recommend a chin augmentation using a chin implant combined with rhinoplasty to create a better profile and ultimately a more aesthetically pleasing facial structure. It is also in the patient’s best interest in some cases to combine a septoplasty which will assist patients in breathing problems if there is scar tissue blocking the airways. This can be incredibly valuable especially as patients age. Dr. Stuart Kincaid encourages patients who are considering rhinoplasty to consult with him so he made determine if rhinoplasty is the right procedure for helping them maintain their most youthful appearance.

Plastic Surgery Blog: Why You Should Share Your POSITIVE Plastic Surgery Experience

Thursday, June 21st, 2012

shhh dont tell anyone Plastic Surgery Blog: Why You Should Share Your POSITIVE Plastic Surgery Experience It is not uncommon for plastic surgery patients to want their plastic surgery procedure kept under wraps. As a reputable ASPS board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stuart Kincaid pledges confidentiality and professionalism to every patient. The reality is, that what Dr. Stuart Kincaid’s patients say about him is much more important than what he could ever say about himself. In this day and age with the Internet as a prominent component of any plastic surgery practice patient reviews online have become a part of the landscape for patients who are considering plastic surgery. It is not uncommon for patients to ask Dr. Stuart Kincaid if they can write a review or make their testimonial known online. The answer is a resounding yes! Just as important as the online component it’s even more significant when patients share their experience with their friends and family. While there are many justifiable reasons for keeping plastic surgery procedures under wraps there are a few reasons patients may want to consider relaying their positive experience to the people with whom they have a relationship. One of the best reasons is to help someone who was once like you searching in vain for the right plastic surgeon. Patients quickly forget how daunting the process can be searching through thousands of before-and-after photos, going to several consultations, and still being unsure as to whether or not you are choosing the right plastic surgeon and making the right decision. Helping someone else who felt as unsure as you did before choosing Dr. Stuart Kincaid is not only a good deed, it is often invaluable to the other person. Patients who are considering procedures like facelift or breast augmentation and have great concerns about what other people may think about their decision, are immediately put at ease when a patient is able to tell them about their experience and how they handled other people’s reaction to their decision. While Dr. Stuart Kincaid understands that it is not his patient’s responsibility to share their personal plastic surgery experience, he is ever so grateful for the many patients who do. Dr. Stuart Kincaid is able to successfully grow a practice that is heavily dependent upon patient referrals. Dr. Stuart Kincaid encourages patients who hear about him from friends or family to make the staff aware so that we may thank the person who relayed their very private plastic surgery patient experience.

Plastic Surgery Blog: Hot Fun in the Summertime … Make Smart Choices!

Wednesday, June 20th, 2012

sun tanning at the beach4 Plastic Surgery Blog: Hot Fun in the Summertime … Make Smart Choices!Summer is here! Although we are in beautiful Southern California, we still revel in the thought of summer and enjoying all that our landscape has to offer. How can something so good be harmful? Dr. Stuart Kincaid reminds his patients that having fun in the sun is fine but you must be careful to do so responsibly. The sun’s rays can be very damaging to the skin. First and foremost, overexposure to the sun is the number one cause of skin cancer including melanoma which is the deadliest form of skin cancer. So, laying out in the sun for a tan is definitely not advised. The tanning bed is also not advised as it too can lead to skin cancer. Overexposure to the sun can also be blamed for premature aging of the skin especially on the face. This includes loose and lax skin along the jaw line as well as a thin and wrinkled skin on the neck. Dr. Stuart Kincaid offers many different options for patients who are making an effort to maintain their most youthful appearance. A vast selection of medical grade skin care products and medical grade skin care treatments are available through his practice. Dr. Stuart Kincaid encourages patients to take advantage of his experienced medical aesthetician and the results she is able to deliver using exceptional products combined with skill and expertise. Dr. Stuart Kincaid also offers a wide range of injectables including Botox, f dermal fillers including Restylane and Juvederm. Dr. Stuart Kincaid is an expert injector for Sculptra Cosmetic which is a filler that uses the patient’s own collagen to gradually replace volume to the face. These noninvasive options can help patients to maintain a youthful appearance and in most cases allow them to delay surgical options by a few years. Dr. Stuart Kincaid and his staff encourage their patients to enjoy the summer and to be diligent about maintaining healthy skin and their most youthful appearance.

Plastic Surgery Blog: Is Plastic Surgery the Right Choice for You?

Tuesday, June 19th, 2012

woman thinking9 Plastic Surgery Blog: Is Plastic Surgery the Right Choice for You?Although plastic surgery is an individual decision is easy to get caught up in believing that plastic surgery can achieve certain goals that it cannot. Patients should approach the plastic surgery process with an open mind. Prior to a plastic surgery consultation patient should consider all outside research as information that is general, and understand that it can change once they have a true consultation with Dr. Stuart Kincaid. This includes information from the Internet, friends, family, television and other sources. Dr. Stuart Kincaid examines every patient who is considering plastic surgery and makes recommendations based on his medical knowledge, surgical expertise, and experience. Cosmetic plastic surgery is intended to enhance one’s appearance not replace or substitute. This means that patient should consider breast augmentation for example as an enhancement of what currently exist, and not a replacement. This means that while Dr. Stuart Kincaid can help to enhance the look of the breast through breast augmentation with implants and possibly a breast lift he is still limited by the patient’s own physical attributes. These could include but are not limited to the chest wall, the amount of skin, the amount of existing breast tissue and more. Patients should realize that an enhancement will create a more aesthetically pleasing look; however, the breast will still maintain the same basic characteristics including where they sit on the chest wall and the existing cleavage line. Meeting and exceeding the expectations of patients is critical in creating a satisfying patient experience. Dr. Stuart Kincaid and his staff are committed to providing the best patient experience possible.

Plastic Surgery Blog: You’ve lost the Weight Now What?

Tuesday, June 19th, 2012

spanx Plastic Surgery Blog: Youve lost the Weight Now What?It can be very frustrating for patients who have lost a significant amount of weight. While on the surface there are many compliments on the challenge they have faced and the fact that they have overcome the odds. But beneath the surface for many patients there is a significant amount of loose skin that reminds them every day of their weight loss. Some patients wear full body spanxs which helped to hold the skin tight, at least from an appearance perspective. But, as the summer months get underway spanxs underneath close can be extremely uncomfortable. Many patients consult with Dr. Stuart Kincaid to determine what their options are for eliminating loose and lax skin on their arms, abdomen, and ou thighs. For many patients it’s not just a cosmetic issue. Skin folds can be not only uncomfortable but can sweat and develop rashes and infections. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains to patients after weight loss that post massive weight loss surgery is the only truly effective way to remove a significant amount of loose skin. For the abdomen Dr. Stuart Kincaid will typically recommend an abdominoplasty. For most patients who have lost weight an extended incision may be necessary to obtain the best aesthetic results. For the thighs Dr. Stuart Kincaid will typically recommend a thigh lift which will allow him to lift up the excess skin and remove it leaving tighter more toned looking legs. For the arms Dr. Stuart Kincaid will typically recommend a brachioplasty or arm lift. This will allow him to remove the excess skin on the underside of the arm utilizing an incision that is well hidden on the underside of the arm. Patients are overwhelmingly thrilled with the results Dr. Stuart Kincaid can deliver after patients have lost weight. In some cases Dr. Stuart Kincaid may recommend that patients have the surgeries performed separately to ensure safety and maximize the results. Patients are encouraged to consult with Dr. Stuart Kincaid and determine if post massive weight loss surgery is a viable option for them.
