Laser Skin Options; Are They Good For The Summer?

Friday, July 6th, 2012

skin damage1 Laser Skin Options; Are They Good For The Summer? Laser skin care treatments have gotten a lot of buzz lately. It is easy to become confused about which lasers are best based on your specific skin concern. Dr. Stuart Kincaid is one of the few board-certified plastic surgeons who have available within his practice, a range of state-of-the-art laser devices to help patients achieve the best minimally invasive skin care options available today. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains to his patients that laser devices in themselves cannot be credited or criticized for results. The results of any laser skin care treatments are heavily dependent upon the skill and expertise of the medical professional administering the laser treatment. Patient should never take for granted the experience and expertise of and an ASPS board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Stuart Kincaid. With 25+ years of plastic surgery experience Dr. Stuart Kincaid has a surgical understanding of not only the skin and the underlying tissues but also the muscles and how they can cause wrinkling in the face. He also has a clear understanding of the loss of volume in the face that happens as we age and how that relates to a patient’s overall appearance. Dr. Stuart Kincaid utilizes both Sciton Profile and Joule Lasers . These state-of-the-art laser systems give Dr. Stuart Kincaid the added ability to perform a wide range of laser skin rejuvenation procedures which include everything from micro laser peels to laser hair removal. Often patients believe that investing the time and finances in laser skin options during the summer doesn’t make sense because patients are required to avoid direct sun exposure. Dr. Stuart Kincaid and his staff explain to patients that the summer time is often one of the best times to invest in laser resurfacing and other laser skin care alternatives. Often patients have time off from work due to summer vacations and it is an excellent time to prepare the skin for the fall and winter months, as many of the fall and winter holidays are centered on family time and social activities. Also, during the slower summer months there are many skin care incentives that will not be available once the busy fall or winter season begin. Dr. Stuart Kincaid encourages patients to schedule a consultation in the office to see which laser skin care options are best for them. He encourages patients not to hesitate and choose laser procedures during the summer months.

Skin Cancer Prevention May Be a New Reason for Having Your Morning Java

Monday, July 2nd, 2012

A good cup of coffee Skin Cancer Prevention May Be a New Reason for Having Your Morning Java There have been numerous coffee benefits discovered throughout the years. A new study indicates that coffee may help to prevent some forms of skin cancer. According to a recent online article a study published July 1 in the journal Cancer Research implies that consuming coffee may reduce the risk of developing basal cell carcinoma which is the most common form of skin cancer.  The study also discovered that tea with caffeine; colas and even chocolate also seem to reduce the risk as well. Female participants who consumed in excess of 3 cups of caffeinated coffee daily were 21% less likely to develop skin cancer compared with women who consumed less than one cup every month. In contrast male participants experienced a reduction risk that was 10%. “It’s the caffeine that’s most likely responsible for the beneficial effect,” said study co-author Jiali Han, an associate professor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, in Boston. “Caffeine inhibits tumor progression. We saw the effect in mice and thought we should do this research to see if it applies to humans, too.” Han added that it is likely that increasing the amount of caffeine consumption would correlate with risk reduction however he does not recommend caffeine consumption for everyone.  Dr. Stuart Kincaid informs patients that skin cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer. Patient should wear sunscreen daily and avoid excessive sun exposure as one of the best ways to prevent skin cancer. Excessive sun exposure is also to blame for premature aging and wrinkling especially on the face. Dr. Stuart Kincaid encourages patients to be proactive concerning aging on the face as it is much more difficult to maintain a youthful appearance on skin that has been damaged by the sun. Dr. Stuart Kincaid offers many options for maintaining your most youthful appearance. Often he may suggest laser resurfacing as a way to treat existing sun damaged skin and allow the opportunity for new skin to develop. Dr. Stuart Kincaid may also recommend dermal fillers including Restylane and Juvederm to help add volume in areas where it has been lost in the face. This too can help with the appearance of aging. Dr. Stuart Kincaid also offers medical grade skin care treatments and medical grade skin care products to ensure patients maintain healthy skin. Dr. Stuart Kincaid encourages patients to schedule consultation to determine the best way to treat existing sun damage and begin a skin care regimen that will help them to maintain their most healthy skin.

Plastic surgery blog:Melanoma Drug May Cause Additional Skin Cancer

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

skin cancer 2 Plastic surgery blog:Melanoma Drug May Cause Additional Skin CancerAs science continues to research new and better treatments for melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer doctors keep a close eye on side effects of medications. According to a USA Today article the recently approved drug vemurafenib (Zelboraf) has been hailed as a breakthrough in the treatment of melanoma. Of concern to the medical community, is that roughly one-quarter of patients who take the medication develop a troublesome side effect: secondary skin cancers called squamous cell carcinomas. Researchers at the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of California, Los Angeles, and colleagues identified the specific genetic mechanism that causes this side effect. Needless to say any treatment that would spurn another form of skin cancer would not be one that would be considered an excellent solution. In sunny San Diego the occurrence of skin cancer is not only likely but it is common. Dr. Stuart Kincaid urges his patients to take healthy skin care seriously as an important part of their overall healthcare. Healthy skin care requires a commitment to first and foremost, sunscreen on a daily basis. Patients are also advised to take advantage of medical grade skin care treatments and products. Dr. Stuart Kincaid offers IPL treatments which are extremely effective at removing dark spots some call aging spots. Laser resurfacing can also be very effective in maintaining a healthy glow to the skin and ridding the skin of  dry and flaky skin that can make a patient’s skin seem lifeless. Most patients who experience skin cancer do not have the most deadly form; however early diagnosis is critical for all skin cancer. Dr. Stuart Kincaid recommends patients have an annual checkup to analyze the skin, check for and remove any suspicious areas

woman with migraine Plastic surgery blog:Teaching your body to de stressIn our culture of do it yourself remedies, it can be easy to discount teaching your body to de-stress. A recent news 10 article reviewed what it called very effective methods for de- stressing. The science behind guided biofeedback has to do with heart rate variability, or the variation in the beat-to-beat interval of your heart rate. Researchers have found a significant link between reduced heart rate variability and a decreased quality of life, including greater stress, pain and worry, and a host of other conditions.  There are several biofeedback devices on the market. StressEraser, emWave and MyCalmBeat were the three most mentioned by the psychologists in the article. Dr. Stuart Kincaid points out that allowing stress over a long period of time can cause significant changes in your appearance. Dr. Stuart Kincaid recommends regular medical grade skin care treatments not just for the health your skin but also as an excellent remedy for the effects of stress. Laser skin resurfacing and chemical peels also excellent options. For patients who want a stress free approach  to anti-aging ,that  is gradual Sculptra is an excellent solution.  As a featured physician of the Liquid Facelift Association Dr. Stuart Kincaid is an experienced Sculptra injector with impressive results.  Patients have the volume restored to their face growing their own collagen over time.  Patients should care for their body inside and out as the best defense against stress.

Plastic surgery blog:What you eat may be good for hair …don’t forget your skin

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

red headed woman Plastic surgery blog:What you eat may be good for hair ...dont forget your skinIt is a common phrase that you are what you eat. It appears to be true. According to The Daily News there are specific vitamins and proteins that help to keep our hair healthy and shiny. To keep your hair healthy, you’ll need to ensure your diet contains plenty of protein, iron, omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, and vitamin A, all crucial for scalp health and keeping hair shiny. However, supplementing with too much vitamin A may actually contribute to hair loss, according to research from the University of Hawaii. Of course, changing your diet won’t transform fine, thin hair into mane-like tresses, but ensuring your diet includes plenty of growth-promoting protein and iron can make a difference, noted WebMD. Aim for high-quality protein, such as eggs, poultry, and low-fat dairy. Dr. Stuart Kincaid encourages his patients not to forget about their skin when concerned about a healthy diet. While the diet is very important, it is also important for patients to take very good care of their skin with medical grade skin care treatments.  This includes IPL treatments which help treat and minimize sun spots and brown pigmented spots on skin.  Lasers skin care treatments can help to resurface the skin for a more youthful  appearance and  a more even complexion.

Cosmetic laser procedures: the best way to erase dark circles, liver spots and skin discoloration

Capture Cosmetic laser procedures: the best way to erase dark circles, liver spots and skin discoloration

Lasers may help patients erase stubborn under-eye circles/Source: ASAPS

Halloween is just around the corner — and for many people, dressing up as goons and goblins is a beloved tradition.  It’s the one day each year when it’s acceptable to look like something from “Night of the Living Dead.”  But unfortunately, some of us don’t need makeup to create dark circles or bags under their eyes — and while it might be convenient for Halloween, it’s not a pretty problem to deal with for the other 364 days a year.

For those looking to kick dark circles, liver spots or discolored skin, the American Society of Plastic Surgery says laser treatments may be the answer. Those dark circles under the eyes are caused in part by age.  When a person hits 30, the skin around the eyes starts to thin, making blood vessels appear more visible.  Sun exposure, allergies and excess pigmentation near the eyes can also leave a person with a tired look.  Now cosmetic surgeons are urging those with particularly dark circles to forget the concealers, eye creams and facial masks: laser treatments are the way to go.

The treatments, which start at around $450 each, vary significantly depending on what type of skin problem you’re dealing with.  If a patient has damage over a large section of skin, experts recommend Pulsed Light therapy, which emits a range of light that targets discolored spots.  For those battling liver spots, on the other hand, cosmetic plastic surgeons recommend Lumixyl Brightening System. This is a four-part topical regimen that a doctor applies over the course of eight weeks.  Scars or discoloration left from acne can also be eliminated with lasers to soften the aftermath of breakouts.  Prospective patients should note, however, that with any laser treatment, the affected area will scab post-treatment — and extra sunscreen and protection should be used to prevent sun damage and burns to skin with heightened sensitivity

While the movies make it look like a facial and a set of cucumbers over the eyes will solve any problem, cosmetic surgeons say otherwise.  Even Ladies Home Journal advised its readers to look into this new treatment, “If you’re ready to get out the big guns, try lasers.”

Plastic surgery blog:Eat your way to healthy skin? That’s a start

Monday, August 1st, 2011

beautiful skin care6 Plastic surgery blog:Eat your way to healthy skin? That’s a startWe have all heard that you are what you eat, however that is only the beginning especially when it concerns our skin. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains to his patients that the proper use of medical grade skin care products is essential to an effective antiaging lifestyle. Treatments that include laser resurfacing, chemical peels, andIPL treatments are all contributors to healthy skin. A persons diet has in effect on every part of the body including the skin. It is an overstatement when consumers are advised in a local article that they can save hundreds of dollars in skin care products just by eating certain foods. There are many factors that contribute to healthy looking skin, diet is just one of them. According to the recent Sign on San Diego  article when your skin is supplied and nourished by certain vitamins, minerals and antioxidants it can appear healthier and younger.  Make sure to include these nutrients in your diet, and an amazing complexion will be yours:

•  Essential fatty acids. Fatty acids are important to the production of the skin’s natural oil barrier. Eating foods with essential fatty acids like Omega-3and Omega-6 can help skin that is dry and prone to inflammation.
• Vitamins A, B, C, E, and K complex. Eating foods high in vitamins and antioxidants can protect your cells from free radical damage such as sun exposure and premature aging.

• Minerals like selenium, copper and zinc. Research has shown that the mineral selenium makes skin elastic and plays a role in skin cancer prevention.

Plastic surgery blog:Eat your way to healthy skin? That’s a start

Monday, August 1st, 2011

beautiful skin care1 Plastic surgery blog:Eat your way to healthy skin? That’s a startIt is difficult to dispute the fact that good looking healthy skin is a reflection of our overall health. What we eat plays a very important role; however, it is not the complete solution. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains the importance of medical grade skin care products to his patients. It is important that they understand the difference between over-the-counter skin care products and those limited only for sale in a medical office. The ingredients are stronger and are potentially damaging if not used in a medically supervised environment. He also offers options for laser resurfacing and chemical peel which also require medical training and supervision. Dr. Stuart Kincaid offers not only skin care but also excellent skilled surgical options. What this means to patients, is that he is able to offer the best complete recommendations for patients who desire to look their best.  A healthy diet is a great place to start;  but not as a replacement of a skin care program. According to Sign on San Diego  if you make sure to include these nutrients in your diet, an amazing complexion will be yours:

• Essential fatty acids. Fatty acids are important to the production of the skin’s natural oil barrier.
