Every year the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery tracks trends in the cosmetic surgery industry. This year the organization says an increasing number of Asian women are inquiring about procedures to ‘Westernize’ their appearance. Facial features like the eyes and nose are the most popular features to alter. Surgeries like a double eyelid surgery, which opens eyes and creates a crease in the lid, are in high demand. Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a nose job, is also popular. The procedure rounds out the nostrils and offers a more distinct nose.
In some cases, Asian parents are pushing their children to have these procedures done at an early age. At 14-years-old Danielle Ho’s parents offered to pay for a new nose. “In south-east Asia, there is an obsession with having a high-bridged nose, large creases on the eyelids and high cheekbones. I grew up with the idea that you’d look better if you had those features,” she told the Sydney Morning Herald. “The idea is to give the nose a bit more height which does several things: it anchors the mid-face, draws the eyes closer together, creates a shadow line down the side of the nose and actually makes the face look much more mature,” a plastic surgeon told the Vancouver Sun.
Jang Hyu-hee, another parent, took her 12-year-old, Lee Ming-kyong, to a surgeon for a double eyelid surgery. “I’m having her do it,” Jang told CNN, “because I think it’ll help her. This is a society where you have to be pretty to get ahead. She’s my only daughter.” Ming-kyong, who is a young ballet dancer, told reporters, “I’m excited. I think I’ll look better than I do now.”
Dr. Kim Byung-gun, the head of Seoul, South Korea’s biggest plastic surgery clinic, BK DongYang, says he sees this scenario play out in his office everyday. Whether its parents or adults, Byung-gun says Western features are commonly requested. “They always tell me they don’t like their faces,” he says explaining what his patient’s request prior to surgery. “They want to have some westernized, nice faces. They want to have big eyes like westernized people, high profile, and nicer noses.” Byung-gun says American culture is currently dominating beauty trends and is a driving force encouraging women to make surgical changes. “The Chinese and Korean patients tell me that they want to have faces like Americans. The idea of beauty is more westernized recently. That means the Asian people want to have a little less Asian, more westernized appearance. They don’t like big cheekbones or small eyes. They want to have big, bright eyes with slender, nice facial bones.”
Double eyelid surgery has been performed for years, but rhinoplasy is a more recent procedure. In any case, a board-certified surgeon should be consulted to ensure the procedure is performed safely and accurately.

With all the hype concerning lasers, injectables, and nonsurgical facial rejuvenation options it’s easy to believe that a facelift is old-fashioned or old-school. Before patients shoot down the idea of having a facelift they first need to be clear about what it is they would like to achieve. Dr. Stuart Kincaid offers a full range of both nonsurgical as well as surgical facial rejuvenation options; so, therefore he has no hidden agenda in recommending one approach over the other. Patient should understand that a facelift has specific benefits that are unable to be achieved through nonsurgical or minimally invasive procedures. A facelift is a longer-lasting effect and is proven to achieve an appearance that looks about 7 to 10 years younger than a patients stated age. This is a lifelong effect even as the patient ages, it is still visible. Also, if a patient has extreme loose skin in the lower half of the face and also has loose and lax skin on the neck minimally invasive procedures may diminish the appearance that they will not tighten the skin enough to give the same result as a surgical facelift. Typically, the older a patient is when they begin to consider facial rejuvenation procedures the less likely they are to see a dramatic benefit, if they choose minimally invasive procedures over a surgical facelift. Skin laxity diminishes with age and the best results will always be in a younger patient with healthier skin. The best combination for most patients is a surgical facelift combined with injectables including Juvederm and Botox. Also Sculptra which gradually replaces volume in the face with the patient’s own collagen can be used after a facelift to achieve an even more youthful appearance in the nasolabial folds. Laser skin resurfacing is also an excellent adjunct to a surgical facelift. A facelift is not a procedure of the past. It remains one of the best values for patients based on the money invested. Dr. Stuart Kincaid welcomes patients to schedule a consultation to determine which facial rejuvenation procedures are best for them.

Vitamin supplements are more sought after today than any other time in history. With the popularity of the Interne,t information continues to swirl about the benefits of supplements including omega-3. According to recent study the hype may be more substantial been the reality. According to the article taking omega-3 fatty acid supplements, including fish oil capsules, doesn’t appear to make a difference in older people hoping to maintain their brain health, researchers report. A number of studies have implied that omega-3 fatty acids could help keep nerve cells in the brain healthy well into old age, but there is restricted proof of the role of these fatty acids in avoiding dementia or reduced mental abilities — known as “cognitive decline.” Participants of the study who consumed omega-3 fatty acid-containing capsules or margarine did not perform any better on standard tests of mental abilities or on tests of memory and verbal skills, as substantiated by the findings published in The Cochrane Library. Patients make every effort to maintain their health as they age. Mental alertness and brain health are an essential part of any health maintenance program. Dr. Stuart Kincaid encourages his patients to make a concerted effort to assure that there appearance is as youthful as their healthy mind and body. Patient should begin to address the signs of aging as soon as they are evident. This could mean considering noninvasive procedures like Sculptra Cosmetic or surgical procedures like a facelift, or blepharoplasty. Patient should never believe that they are too old to consider plastic surgery. Provided the patient is healthy, there are no age limits for elective cosmetic surgery. For some patients considering facial rejuvenation surgery seems frivolous if they are older. The reality is with patients living longer lives than ever before it is quite common for older patients to want to maintain their most youthful appearance.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women. One of the indicators of possible heart disease is high blood pressure. Many women do not even know that they have it. According to recent local article a new treatment may make it easier to control. According to the article even though there are an arsenal of drugs, millions of people in the United States still have their blood pressure at unsafe levels. Now, in a somewhat unconventional experiment at dozens of hospitals, scientists are testing a significantly different approach for the parties to treat patients, by destroying some overactive nerves throughout the body that can accelerate rising blood pressure. To try an invasive treatment – a catheter is threaded through blood vessels in the groin up to the kidneys – this treatment shows doctors’ frustration with a disease that is so many times underrated because people with it don’t look or feel sick until it is too late because the damage has been done. Dr. Stuart Kincaid sometimes meets with patients who are unaware that their blood pressure is elevated. This is more the case with older patients who consult with Dr. Stuart Kincaid for procedures like facelift, brow lift, or blepharoplasty. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains to patients that it is imperative that their blood pressure is under control prior to surgery especially for facial rejuvenation procedures. Specifically, blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery can have increased risk in patients who have high blood pressure. Pressure behind the eyes after surgery can cause serious complications. For some patients, this is the first time that they have addressed their high blood pressure and now they are able to have it treated through their primary care physician. Once their blood pressure is under control in most cases Dr. Stuart Kincaid can perform the surgery. As an ASPS board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stuart Kincaid follows the recommended medical guidelines prior to surgery to help ensure patients safety. As women and men enter the ever-growing population of baby boomers, fitness and healthy lifestyle have become a central part of being used to be known as a senior citizen. According to a recent onlinearticle The oldest of the US 76 million baby boomers begin turning 70 in 2016. And if there’s a strong unique trait of boomers, it is the intense motivation to stay and appear comparatively young. The shifting demographics aren’t entirely a good thing. In many instances, science has simply prolonged the lives of people barely alive with chronic diseases. There are no comprehensively effective treatments for dementia, which becomes more likely as a person ages. One of the greatest problems may be cultural. Many people in their 70s reported that they feel marginalized by younger people, even when they’re in robust health. Dr. StuartKincaid encourages his older patientsto maintain a positive attitude along with their best appearance. There is no medical reason for patients who are older to forgo the option of cosmetic surgery. Many older adults choose to have facial rejuvenation procedures including facelift, browlift, and eyelift. In order to be a good candidate for these procedures Dr. Stuart Kincaid will require them to be in excellent health prior to surgery. Dr. Stuart Kincaid may require the patient to have independent medical clearance prior to surgery. Dr. Stuart Kincaid is committed to excellent results as well as a healthy plasticsurgeryprocess. Dr. Stuart Kincaid helps patients understand that plastic surgery for older adults is an excellent option not only for self-esteem but also increased self-confidence. There have been conflicting reports about the health benefits of coffee for quite some time. A new study now says that coffee may actually add years to your life. According to a recent localnewsstory coffee appears to be good for you. At least the study didn’t say it was bad, according to researchers who led the biggest study ever performed focusing on coffee and health. They discovered that coffee drinkers appeared slightly more likely to live longer than those people who drink no coffee at all. Regular or decaf did not make a difference. This is significant because a few studies in the past came to the conclusion that coffee could be harmful. Results of the most recent study are published in Thursday’s New England Journal of Medicine. Older studies were not giving the wrong information. Coffee can increase cholesterol and blood pressure in the short term, which in turn can increase the risk of heart disease. But very few studies have looked at coffee and the risk of dying from any cause, not to mention specific diseases. This study has its imperfections as most diet studies do, the results are just based on observing people’s habits and resulting health. So it does not specifically demonstrate that coffee lengthens lives. But experts say it’s the best evidence we have thus far yet on this issue. The study involved more than 400,000 people and was done by the National Institutes of Health and AARP. Researchers also made allowances for smoking, drinking alcohol, exercise and other things that could skew results. Dr. StuartKincaid encourages older people to embrace the fact that many of them are living longer and feeling better than ever before. Provided patientsare healthy they should not hesitate to consider plasticsurgery procedures in order to look as young and energetic as they feel. Many of Dr. Stuart Kincaid older patients choose to have facelift, browlift, and blepharoplastywhich allows them to have a complete facial rejuvenation. Patients tell Dr. Stuart Kincaid that they are thrilled with the results and that the majority of patients look at least 7 to 10 years younger than their real age. Become a Fan on Facebook

Life is supposed to begin after 50 according to many experts who are referring to a good quality of life. Some people get sidetracked by depression. According to recent local San Diego article depression is not a normal symptom of aging. There are a multitude of available treatment options. Some are easily available and include exercise, socializing with friends, changes in your diet and participating in more ofthe things you enjoy. Other forms of depression can be treated with medication or therapy. Staying active and involved with family and friends, exercising to stay trim and fit, and getting involved in a cause or in your community can all contribute to preventing depression. But don’t be afraid to ask for help if these activities are not working. Your golden years are too important not to be full and satisfying. Janice Yuwiler and Kellie Scott are with the San Diego State University School of Social Work’s Academy for Professional Excellence and contributed to the article. Dr. Stuart Kincaid encourages his to embrace the aging process without fear. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains that there are so many options available to help patients look their best at every age. Even patients who do not choose plastic surgery can take advantage of medical grade skin care treatments that will help to keep their skin looking its best. Dr. Stuart Kincaid also recommends that patients consider noninvasive injectables including Botox and fillers like Juvederm and Restylane. Patients who are more comfortable with surgical procedures can usually benefit from facelift, brow lift, and blepharoplasty. Age is no longer a reason for patients to overlook cosmetic surgeryprocedures. People are living longer than ever before with an excellent quality of life so it is only natural to want to look as good as they feel. Dr. Stuart Kincaid reminds patients that plastic surgery patients often experience increased self-esteem and self-confidence after having surgery. With the food industry scrambling for new healthy incentives for buying their products, orange juice and other products that contain large amounts of vitamin C, just received great news from a recent study. According to Foxnews the study proves that vitamin C can lower blood pressure. According to the news story big doses of Vitamin C may moderately decrease blood pressure, Johns Hopkins researchers have discovered. However, scientists don’t advise people to begin consuming large amounts of the vitamin. Researchers led by Dr. Edgar “Pete” R. Miller, an associate professor in the division of general internal medicine at Hopkins, reviewed and studied data from 29 previous clinical trials and discovered by taking 500 milligrams of Vitamin C daily, or five times the recommended amount, patients would lower blood pressure by 3.84 millimeters. “Although our review found only a moderate impact on blood pressure, if the entire U.S. population lowered blood pressure by 3 milliliters of mercury, there would be a lot fewer strokes,” Miller said in a statement. However, Miller made it clear that none of the studies proved that vitamin C directly cures, eliminates, or reduces cardiovasculardisease, or its risks including stroke. High blood pressure is known as the silent killer because it often has no associated symptoms that are easy to pinpoint. Dr. StuartKincaid explains to patientswho are considering plasticsurgery that their blood pressure must be under control in order to be considered a candidate. Often women who are past childbearing age may not be aware that their blood pressure is elevated. Sometimes patients find out for the first time, that they have high blood pressure, when they are considering facial rejuvenation procedures including facelift, blepharoplasty, and browlift. As a board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stuart Kincaid is keenly aware of the importance of proceeding with surgery only after the patient’s blood pressure is under control. Sadly, in cases where patients have been convinced by some doctors there are little to no risk associated with facial rejuvenation procedures, some patients with high blood pressure have proceeded with facial rejuvenation surgery and been plagued with multiple complications as a result. Some patients are misled to believe that because the procedure is performed in an office without anesthesia that there are few risk and that their blood pressure is not a factor. Dr. Stuart Kincaid emphasizes to his patients that safety should always be of the utmost concern. Dr. Stuart Kincaid remains one of the top plastic surgeons in the country due to his equal commiitment to safety as well as exceptional results. Wrinkles on a person’s face automatically equate to the image of an older person. According to recent San Diego local article avoiding sun exposure remains the most effective way to help prevent wrinkles and premature aging. According to the article when we view a young girl’s skin it is markedly different from that of a middle-aged to older adult woman mostly due to long-term sun exposure and the natural aging process. Cumulative sun exposure over our lifetime adds up on our skin and can result in changes which include over tanned and leathery looking skin, with multiple lines, roughness, dryness, sagging, and precancerous skin lesions and skin cancers. Also, chronologically as we age the skin will become drier, rougher and ultimately wrinkled. There are tips for reducing the damage created by the sun and slowing down what is inevitable with chronological aging. According to the article some of these tips include minimizing sun exposure. Using a broad spectrum sunscreen daily that is at least an SPF 30 and have the ingredients avobenzone and/or mexoryl is imperative. Moisturizing the skin is a necessity especially for dry skin. This is for women of all ages. As women age using products that exfoliate the skin can damage the skin if appropriate moisturizer is not replaced. Using medical grade skin care products that include topical retinoids like Retin-A can reduce sun damage and help to build collagen. As patients age they should change their skin care regimen to match the characteristics of their aging skin for the best results. Dr. Stuart Kincaid offers effective solutions for sun damaged skin. Currently Dr. Stuart Kincaid has some of the most advanced lasers available. Patients treated with laser treatments including Sciton and IPL treatments often see amazing results in just one treatment. It is important for patients to maintain consistent skin care with medical grade products in order to enjoy the results long-term. Dr. Stuart Kincaid also recommends that patients consider noninvasive products like Botox and injectable fillers to improve the overall appearance of their face. Patients should also consider surgical options like blepharoplasty(eyelid lift) as an excellent option for a more youthful appearance. Become a Fan on Facebook Follow us on Twitter More on Dr.Kincaid

Facial transplants used to be something you only heard about in science fiction movies. Advancements in medicine have made them a reality. According to a recent localnewsstory another facial transplant has been performed on a gentleman from Virginia. According to the story a 37-year-old man received an extensive face transplant spanning from his hairline down to the neck, including a jaw, full set of teeth, tongue and cheeks. The reconstructive plastic surgery basically re-created the majority of the patient’s face not including his eyes and the back portion of his throat. Richard Lee Norris of Hillsville, Va., is the 23rd patient to receive a face transplant across the globe. His doctors at the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center say this reconstructive surgery is the most complex surgery of its type due to the extent of the transplant and fact that there was placement of a complete set of teeth. “The face will look like a blend of the donor as well as Richard,” said Dr.Eduardo D. Rodriguez, associate professor of surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. “There are some unique features, his nose, the chin that have been replaced in entirety. Other than that, it’s a combination of both individuals.” Dr. StuartKincaid stresses to his patients that the advantages of his training as anASPSboard-certified plastic surgeon include extensive training in reconstructive plastic surgery. Patient should understand that many of the techniques used in cosmetic surgeries including facelift, browlift, and blepharoplasty came from reconstructiveplasticsurgeryprocedures performed on the face. The knowledge and skill required to treat a reconstructive patient is extensive and in turn serves the cosmetic patient very well. Dr. Stuart Kincaid with his training and skill level is able to assess not only the opportunity for cosmetic solutions; he is also able to use creative measures when applicable to help patients reach their desired goals. The importance of choosing an ASPS board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Stuart Kincaid is invaluable. Become a Fan on Facebook Follow us on Twitter More on Dr.Kincaid
