Gwenyth Paltrow, world’s most beautiful woman, talks about Botox

Monday, May 6th, 2013

The reigning Gwenyth Paltrow, who was recently crowed the world’s most beautiful woman, recently talked to Harper Bazaar magazine about her experience with Botox. While it’s true that Botox usually appeals to most women, Ms. Paltrow said the procedure just wasn’t for her.

“I’ve probably tried everything,” she told the mag. “I would be scared to go under the knife, but you know, talk to me when I’m 50. I’ll try anything. Except I won’t do Botox again, because I looked crazy. I looked like Joan Rivers!”

The truth is that Botox needs to be applied conservatively for most women to achieve the look that is natural and beautiful. If too much Botox is administered, women can quickly look unnatural.

Undoubtedly, Gwenyth Paltrow is undeniably gorgeous Botox or without! It’s also a good idea to note that Botox is not always the solution. Sometimes Restylane, Juvederm or even chemical peels are the correct answer to aging concerns. Sometimes, Botox should be held off for these procedures instead. It’s a good idea to talk to a plastic surgeon in San Diego to understand what products are best for the desired look. Remember, Botox isn’t always the answer – sometimes, injectables are the best way to get that youthful look!

Paltrow isn’t the only celeb to shun Botox. Nicole Kidman recently said Botox was not the right anti-aging treatment for her.

“I did try Botox, unfortunately, but I got out of it and now I can finally move my face again.”

Paltrow’s mother on the other hand, found Botox to be the idea solution to her aging concerns.

“Well, I think we’ve all fooled around with [Botox],” Blythe Danner said in 2010. “I won’t go into detail, but we all need a little help from our friends!”

UNDERSTANDING BOTOX IN SAN DIEGO & OTHER ANTI-AGING OPTIONS

It’s so important for women to understand that Botox isn’t the end-all solution to removing fine lines and wrinkles. Sometimes, there are other remedies like laser treatments, chemical peels or fillers like Restylane and Juvederm that offer the youthful look you desire.

When it comes to understanding personal beauty, talk to a plastic surgeon in San Diego. Call our Dr. Kincaid, an award-winning plastic surgeon in San Diego, at  858-450-4199 and schedule a consultation today.

Remember, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all definition of beauty. There are many options available to achieve the look you desire. Talk to a plastic surgeon that understands that – give us a call today.

Michael Kors to expand into cosmetics

Friday, April 12th, 2013

We can all look forward to a new change in cosmetics now that Michael Kors has joined the lineup. Ladies everywhere have a little something to celebrate! All-American pink lip gloss? Quintessential red lipstick? All by the arguably most heralded fashion icon today? Don’t mind if we do!

Michael Kors announced earlier this month that he will be launching a cosmetic line to go with his already popular Americana fashion brand. Women will have a full line of cosmetics to choose from including color products, skin and sun care, and even three new fragrances.

As reported by WWD magazine and reprinted on Fashionista.com, the so-called “quippy” designer will be featuring three distinct lines that include “sporty,” “sexy,” and “glam.” Each collection will feature different color and fragrance experiences.

“I think those three things–sexy, sporty and glam–have always been the DNA of Michael Kors, and in a strange way, the Michael Kors woman really is all three of those things–it’s just that she feels more strongly about one of them at certain given times,” Kors told the trade.

As for inspiration for the brand, Kors looked to his most important influences.

“My grandmother was over-the-top glam — she worshipped at the altar of Elizabeth Taylor,” Kors said. “And I then had the absolute opposite in my mother, who wore very natural makeup, very little print, was very laid-back and relaxed and sporty.”

Pricing for Kors’ cosmetic brand will range from $18 to $95 with such offerings as nail lacquer to fine fragrances. What you won’t find are things like mascara or foundation.

“I wanted to do the essentials–the things you absolutely have to have to represent that mood,” Kors said.

MAKE YOUR FACE LOOK AMAZING WITH THE RIGHT SKIN FIRST

If you’re excited about Michael Kors’ new cosmetic line, you’re not alone. When it comes to cosmetics, nothing looks fresher or more put together than a clean slate – polished, beautiful skin, that is. And that’s true no matter what brand of makeup you prefer.

To make the most of your cosmetics and to make your beauty routine absolutely pop, consider the following add ons:

Botox. Heralded as one of the most essential beauty treatments, Botox is an excellent way to combat existing wrinkles while combating future ones. It’s safe and effective as a wrinkle relaxer and has helped women everywhere enjoy younger looking, more beautiful skin.

Chemical Peel. For a youthful, rejuvenated look, women turn to chemical peels to achieve the look. A chemical peel sloughs off the first few layers of skin. As healing begins, you can look forward to softer and younger looking skin.

For more information on Botox or chemical peels in San Diego, call Dr. Kincaid at  858-450-4199 and schedule your consultation today.

Improving self-esteem 4 steps at a time

Saturday, April 6th, 2013

When it comes to feeling better about yourself, now is the time – with spring in the air, you can start feeling better about the way you feel. A negative impression of how you view yourself can lead to a whole host of problems including depression, poor self-image and even cause interference in your personal and professional life. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery says that now more than ever, high self-esteem can be achieved with four simple steps.

1. Tell yourself that you are amazing every day

Most of us are used to dismissing compliments, much less accepting them from ourselves. But it’s so important to tell yourself every day that you are an amazing person inside and out. Try telling yourself out loud that you are a good person and that you look beautiful – try to even memorize some favorite phrases that you can repeat when you are feeling in the dumps or if you’re just having one of those days. It really works even though you may feel silly doing it, so get started on your positive daily affirmations today.

2. Posture

Never has it been so important to stand tall and proud of yourself. Hunching over not only looks unflattering for all of your body, but it can subconsciously lead to a negative perception of yourself when you are constantly looking at the ground. Get started on a more confident version of you and start standing taller, with a straight spine and your head looking forward.

Surgery.org says, “Pretend there is an invisible string attached to the top of your head and your shoulders constantly pulling you gently upward toward the ceiling. This will help keep your neck straight and your shoulders squared.”

3. Personal Days

Sometimes, it’s important to take a moment to reflect on yourself and where your life is going. Get started on improving your mental health by resting your mind. Take a day off work and dedicate it to yourself. Think of your life and how you feel about the relationships you are maintaining. If there are any negatives that need pruning, don’t hesitate to remove or improve those elements in your life. It’s the only way you can really make progress toward improving yourself and your self-esteem.

4. Look Great

There’s something to be said about a beautiful outward appearance. If you are feeling like you need to a lift, try a non-invasive procedure such as Botox, chemical peel or microdermabrasion. These relatively easy in-office procedures can lead to a more youthful version of you. Why not consider an uplifting makeover to make the most of your self-esteem?

For more information on any of these procedures, call Dr. Kincaid at his centrally-located Temecula office at 951-695-9934 and schedule your consultation today.

Spring is in the air! Your new fitness and beauty routines await.

Thursday, April 4th, 2013

Now that spring has sprung, a new air of motivation can be felt everywhere from the covers of fashion magazines to the smiles on the faces of women across America. If you’re like many, spring is the perfect time to reassess your fitness, beauty and skin care routine. Not only will you feel better about yourself, but you can also look years younger while shedding off winters’ grey.

Fitness

According to Surgery.org, your fitness routine can be reinvigorated with changing your routine to be primarily outdoors. Anything from yoga to jogging, hiking and swimming can now be an outdoor activity. Outdoor fitness is a great idea for shedding the extra pounds that winter and holiday eating and stress has packed on. Now is the time to get going! You can even start as simply as walking every morning. Increase your resistance by adding ankle or wrist weights or practice endurance by stepping it up to a daily morning jog.

Skin Care

Since you will be spending more time outdoors, there’s never been a more important time to protect your skin. As most women know, the sun is the primary cause of wrinkles, fine lines and age spots – huge deterrents to keeping your skin looking young and refreshed. Wearing sunscreen is especially important when you exercise outdoors as well. Get ahead of the season by slathering on a daily sunscreen that’s at least SPF 30+.

Drink Water

Staying replenished with delicious, fresh water not only sounds good, but is good. Your body needs plenty of hydration to keep cells, organs and skin moist and soft. Plus, it helps your body function at prime levels internally not to mention the beautiful and healthy glow it lends to the face. Drink plenty of water as we head into spring to make the most of the increase of sunshine and longer days.

Reassess facial areas

If you are considering a change to your face whether it is a mild rejuvenation, a non-invasive procedure or a more dramatic change, spring is the perfect time to get the look you have always wanted. Cosmetic enhancements like Botox are an excellent choice for ladies who want to take years off their face and relax fine lines and wrinkles. Chemical peels and microdermabrasion are alternatively great choices for a healthy glow as well. Considering something more dramatic? Talk to a plastic surgeon in San Diego to understand which procedures can help you look younger while maintaining a natural look.

For more information on any of these procedures, call Dr. Kincaid at his centrally located La Jolla office at 858-450-4199 and schedule your consultation today and look spring-ready in no time!

Farrah Abraham, MTV Teen Mom, gives plastic surgery as holiday gifts?

Tuesday, December 18th, 2012

If you really love a product, chances are you’ll probably gift it to a girlfriend, sister, or mother at some point. But when it comes to something like plastic surgery, would you gift it as well if you loved what it did to your appearance?

MTV Teen Mom Farrah Abraham is not shying away from the thought, according to reports!

And why not? Beauty products have been an age-old gift idea since the dawn of time. Why not take it a step further with gifts of Botox, microdermabrasion or chemical peels?

Now, while Farrah hasn’t actually bought plastic surgery for anyone (that we know of!), she did leave her Sulia subscribers wanting more when she wrote:

“Yes look in past months and I have received some enhancements for the better, so let me know if this holiday season your [sic] hoping to get a gift?”

She then added, “Tummy tuck, anyone? How about lipo suction [sic]? Or a facelift?”

Really? Plastic surgery gifts?

There’s no doubt that cosmetic surgery is a personal choice. So while liposuction or breast augmentations may not be the ideal gift, there are times when cosmetic improvement can actually be a great little surprise for the special gal on your list.

Before you dismiss the idea of giving cosmetic enhancements as gifts this holiday season, think:

  • Botox could be a really original and fun holiday gift idea for the mom that “has everything”
  • Gift certificates could be a fun holiday surprise. They could eventually use the money for skin care products if they choose to have nothing done. After all, cosmetics of any kind are a wonderful gift idea for most any gal.
  • You don’t have to “go big or go home” – even a chemical peel or microdermabrasion is an excellent holiday gift idea.

For more information on gift certificates, don’t hesitate to give our office a call at 858-450-4199.

New beauty cream sets consumers back by $875 – is it worth it, or are other beauty treatments a better option?

Thursday, November 22nd, 2012

Beauty has its price. When it comes to creams, though, that price is especially high, especially for women considering a new $875 beauty cream now being sold at Barney’s in Los Angeles and New York. 3LAB launched its new Super Cream that will set back your wallet by $875 and that’s not all – the demand for the beauty salve is all the rage. Within three weeks, the department stores sold 30 jars.

But this isn’t the first time beauty creams have racked up in price. The Bee Venom Mask set back women by $560, and Carita’s Diamond Cream will cost $600.

Back in the day, there was a time when luxury creams cost $100 or even $200. Now, though, women can find creams inching toward the $1,000 mark.

The Los Angeles Times reported that “prestigious skin-care products, priced at $150 or more, generated $418 million in department store sales in the U.S. during the 12 months ending Sept. 30, 2012. That represents an 18 percent increase over the preceding year. The average selling price was $236.54.”

With sales like that, it’s no surprise to learn that the beauty market isn’t going anywhere for a while. But before you start spending your money on beauty creams, consider what the product will actually do for you.

“The new round of pricey skin-care products often pitches an exotic ingredient that promises to work miracles on the complexion without necessarily offering any clinical evidence that it actually does so,” said one clinical professor of dermatology at USC.

Before your fork over $875 for a beauty cream, consider what that money could potentially buy you* – all with proven results.

Botox. Lots of women turn to Botox treatments to get rid of unwanted fine lines and wrinkles. Botox is a sure way to rejuvenate your appearance by improving the smoothness of your skin.

Chemical peel. By sloughing off dead skin at a deep level, newer and fresher skin is then revealed. A chemical peel is a wonderful option for women looking to achieve a youthful appearance.

Restylane. Give your face the much needed volume in needs to look young again. The secret to a youthful look is plumpness and Restylane is a great way to get the firmness your skin needs to look youthful again.

Anti-aging claims noticed by FDA: what’s the real scoop on anti-aging products?

Saturday, September 29th, 2012

There’s no doubt that makeup products, for most women, are a lot of fun. And when combined with anti-aging benefits, the fun is more than just meets the eye.

Today, there are literally millions of makeup products to choose from. When considering beauty products in general to include scrubs and facial creams, the beauty world is truly tremendous. And most everyone claims that their makeup product is best because of various features and benefits.

But now, the FDA is warning makeup companies to take it easy on the so-called “tricky wording” that makeup companies use to sell their products. L’Oreal Paris, one of the largest makeup brands out there, is nursing a slap on the wrist after the FDA recently issued a warning to the makeup mega-giant telling the company to stop using language that could possibly be misconstrued as a false claim.

The anti-aging claims were mainly found on L’Oreal’s website. Products like sunscreen and eye creams were particularly concerning to the FDA as these products were singled out by the FDA as potentially misleading.

For example, the company’s “Genetique Eye Youth Activating Eye Concentrate” is said to boost gene activity while stimulating youth proteins. These types of claims, when using wording the may or may not be accurate, can be a “tricky” sales pitch and mislead women into believing the product is too good to be true.

Other products, like the “Absolute Precious Cells” sunscreen also claims significant deep wrinkle reduction that’s clinically proven. Whether this claim is the case remains unclear — at least in the eyes of the FDA.

There’s no doubt that many makeup and beauty companies have similar claims. The moral of the story is that you shouldn’t necessarily believe everything you read. Beauty products can only do so much.

If you’ve used a wealth of beauty products, with no significant results, consider the following:

Chemical peels. These potent treatments slough off old, dead skin that can dull your look. By removing old skin, new skin is revealed. You can look rejuvenated with smoother skin in just one treatment. Most plastic surgeons, however, recommend a course of chemical peels for the best results.

Botox. This popular injectable is the way to go when fending fine lines and wrinkles. Botox helps skin look smoother by reducing the ability for wrinkles to manifest themselves through facial expressions. It’s considered a safe and effective way to help skin look youthful again.

Radiesse. A great injectable filler, this potent gel helps restore volume where needed. Most likely used in the cheeks, mouth, or chin areas, Radiesse can work wonders for reproducing that plump, youthful look that so many women look for in their beauty creams. Sometimes, an injectable filler is what’s needed to achieve that look.

Talk to Dr. Kincaid today to find out how you can restore your youthful look once again. It is possible, and while beauty creams and makeup are an important piece of the pie, sometimes it takes a little more. See what Dr. Kincaid can do for you. Call us today at our La Jolla plastic surgery office at  858-450-4199.

Antioxidants: youth in a bottle?

Thursday, September 27th, 2012

There’s no doubt that eating a healthy and balanced diet can contribute to all sorts of good stuff – from radiant skin to a more youthful body, putting good food in your body can contribute to your overall wellness, not to mention your good looks.

But when it comes to applying antioxidants on the skin, does it really work to promote a more youthful appearance?

In a new study, researchers tested thousands of beneficial foods like walnuts, blueberries, and other types of berries and nuts – typical foods with a high concentration of antioxidants. But as Surgery.org points out, before your diet consists of just fruits and nuts, there are a variety of beauty products made just for facial skin. But, be cautious will overloading the skin with too many products especially since many can counteract each other and even cause dryness – the antithesis of youthful skin.

So are antioxidants in the diet just fluff or do they actually provide for beautiful skin? The answer is yes, antioxidants help keep the skin looking youthful and radiant. Keeping a well-balanced diet is essential to keeping skin looking beautiful. Remember, though, it’s important to eat a variety of foods – not just antioxidants – for the maximum effect. Talk to a nutritionist to see what’s right for you.

Other ways to keep skin looking youthful

Sometimes, foods and creams can only go so far. If you feel like you need intervention to create a more youthful glow, contact a board-certified plastic surgeon in La Jolla to find out how you can achieve the look you desire.

To further your youthful look, you may want to consider:

Botox. This made-famous injectable can take years off of the face by helping to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Talk to a cosmetic surgeon who specializes in Botox to see if the product is right for you.

Restylane. This popular filler is wonderful for adding lost volume to the lips, cheeks and even chin area when more fullness is desired. Check with a cosmetic surgeon to see which areas of your face could benefit most.

Chemical peel. When new layers of skin are revealed, a more youthful glow can be obtained. A chemical peel helps remove unwanted, dead skin, revealing a more youthful, tight, and radiant skin underneath.

Do-it-yourself cosmetic surgery: a rising trend in San Diego?

Capture19 Do it yourself cosmetic surgery: a rising trend in San Diego?

The cost of cosmetic surgery in San Diego has some people seeking alternative ways to achieve a more youthful look. Recent headlines have been alarming – men and women have sought the help of unlicensed individuals to perform cosmetic surgery but not without its price. And most have had extensive hospitalization following the botched procedures not to mention revision surgeries to correct problems.

But it isn’t just surgery procedures that have people skimping on budget – others turn to at-home microdermabrasion, laser hair removal, and even at-home chemical peels according to a new report at Surgery.org. While these types of procedures are less risky than undergoing plastic surgery by an unlicensed practicioner, doctors still warn that many unwanted side effects can arise from even these seemingly simple procedures.

Common problems that arise from at-home cosmetic procedures include dermal burns, long term skin damage, and even scarring.

“We’ve had patients come in the day before their daughter’s wedding and done an at-home chemical peel and come in with second degree burns,” said one plastic surgeon according to the report.

Many products available over-the-counter can prove to be dangerous, especially in the hands of someone who is unaware of the potency of each product. For instance, consumers can go online to purchase prescription-strength retinoid, glycolic and lactic acid products – but consumers are strongly urged to avoid using such products since they can prove to be highly dangerous in the hands of inexperienced so-called beauty junkies.

“If you stumble upon a website selling prescription-strength retinoid, that should be a red flag and [you should] seek professional help first… because there are certain reactions that can happen and certain products you don’t want to mix together with those,” said one dermatologist.

Even laser hair removal products that are meant for home use should be avoided. Such products and equipment can easily burn the skin causing scarring, thinning, and other adverse reactions when misused. Microdermabrasion is also a leading cause of at-home beauty treatments gone wrong as over-exfoliation can lead to similar side effects such as burning, thinned skin, and rash-like skin appearance.

Experts say that any kind of cosmetic procedure such as microdermabrasion, chemical peels, or laser treatments are best left in the hands of a board-certified plastic surgeon in San Diego. Even though you may think you have the know-how, don’t risk making your skin worse – save money elsewhere and find a good San Diego plastic surgeon to complete your desired look.

Call Dr. Kincaid, a board-certified cosmetic surgeon in San Diego, at 858-450-4199 and schedule your consultation today. Dr. Kincaid serves the greater San Diego area including East County (El Cajon, La Mesa,  Santee, Lemon Grove) and South Bay (South San Diego, Chula Vista, National City, Imperial Beach) and all the San Diego beach communities (Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, Torrey Pines, Mission Beach, Point Loma, La Jolla, Del Mar, Encinitas, Leucadia, Carlsbad, Oceanside).

San Diego plastic surgery complemented by a diet rich in fruits and vegetables

Monday, April 9th, 2012

Capture16 San Diego plastic surgery complemented by a diet rich in fruits and vegetablesAlmost every American knows that eating a healthy diet is important to your overall look, energy level, vitality, and longevity. A good diet is comprised of the obvious choices like fruits, vegetables, and plenty of water, fiber, and whole grains. But now, in a new study published at Surgery.org by the experts at Unilever, a healthy diet along with an increase in fruit and vegetable intake is more important than ever when comes to looking young and radiant – the perfect complement to plastic surgery in San Diego.

So, if beauty is your name, then a stroll down the produce isle is your game.

The study was very simple and illuminated the human body need for natural vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other nutrients found in fruits and vegetables. Researchers gathered 35 people over a six-week period to observe their eating habits. People who consumed more fruits and vegetables over the six-week period were found to look physically younger with brighter red and yellow tones in their skin – a look that researchers say lead to a younger-looking and more attractive appearance. Interestingly, people who consumed a more unhealthy diet void of fruits and vegetables were found to look paler with less overall color in the face. In other words, consuming more fruits and vegetables lead to a younger look because the person appeared naturally more full of life and color.

“People who eat more fruit and vegetables have a ‘golden’ skin tone that looks healthy and attractive,” said researcher Ross Whitehead to The Salt. “Our research finds that even small improvements in diet produces visible benefits to skin color. We were very surprised by how quick the changes were.”

If you’re looking for a great way to supplement your plastic surgery procedures and prolong the look of youth, the study suggests the answer is quite simple: eat more healthy foods. But how much do scientists recommend upping your intake? Just two additional servings of fruits and vegetables each day can lead to a more radiant-looking you. Plus, the more you keep up the healthy diet, the more your skin will improve over the course of time.

Types of fruits and vegetables ideal for the look of youth

Of course, all diets should have a variety of foods including fruits and vegetables. But if you’re looking to increase your intake of the ‘healthy stuff,’ consider the following dietary tips to supplement your San Diego plastic surgery.

Foods rich in Carotenoid pigments. Colorful foods are often known to contain beneficial ingredients like beta-carotene and lycopene – two essential ingredients not only for your health but for younger-looking skin, too. Try increasing your intake of carrots, red cabbage, tomatoes, and other fruits like raspberries, watermelon, blueberries, and apricots. A diet that’s colorful can also lead to better health.

Supplement a good diet with plastic surgery procedures?

Already have a good diet, but looking for that extra ‘oomph’ to make your skin look truly radiant? Consider the following cosmetic procedures:

Microdermabrasion: a wonderful way to whisk away dead skin cells, revealing fresher, newer skin that can also appear smoother.

Laser resurfacing: a potent procedure that resurfaces the skin’s surface. This popular cosmetic procedure can also help remove discolorations.

Chemical peel: a fantastic supplement to your other plastic surgery procedures. Helps remove dull skin by use of glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid or other equally strong ingredients.

Call Dr. Kincaid, a board-certified plastic surgeon in San Diego, at 858-450-4199 to schedule your consultation today. Get a radiant look today!
