It is surprising to see that according to a new study you can be too thin. According to a recent online article a new study implies that it could be much more detrimental to have your doctor give you an underweight diagnosis as compared with a diagnosis of” obese”. Researchers at the University Of California Davis School Of Medicine reported that they surveyed 50,994 Americans who ranged in age from 18 to 90 years old over a time span of six years, with a goal of examining the link between body mass index ( BMI) and mortality based on a representative, contemporary United States sample. Their results were published in the Journal of American Board of Family Medicine. They discovered that based on the BMI model, being underweight was associated directly with an elevated mortality risk, in contrast to being overweight which was associated directly with a reduction in mortality risk. Morbid obesity was associated with an elevated risk of mortality however the association was directly linked to existing diabetes and/or hypertension. According to the study co-authors, Anthony Jerant, MD, and Peter Franks, MD much of the focus is placed on obesity and BMI with the direct correlation to mortality often being overlooked. Plastic surgery patients can also be too thin. It is important for plastic surgery patients to avoid losing so much weight that they are considered underweight. This can have a negative effect on their plastic surgery results. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains to his breast augmentation patients that significant weight loss especially in thin patients can change the appearance shape and contour of an augmented breast. Patients can begin to see rippling where there may have been no visible wrinkling prior to the weight loss. In some patients this can be visible along the cleavage line as well as on the sides of the breast. This can happen most notably with saline implants however it is also possible to see rippling with silicone gel implants especially in very thin patients. For many patients re- gaining 5 to 10 pounds can cause the rippling to no longer be visible. In some instances patients with saline implants may choose to exchange the implants for silicone gel implants which are less likely to show visible rippling. Dr. Stuart Kincaid invites patients to schedule a consultation if they have concerns with previous breast augmentation and want to consider breast implant exchange.

Breast augmentation is the most popular cosmetic surgery. A small percentage of women want extremely large breast implants. A recent online news article highlighted a woman from the United Kingdom who chose to have extra-large breast implants with what later she found out to be an unqualified cosmetic surgeon. According to the story Andrea Scott had the desire to increase her bust size to an F-cup but once she had her breast augmentation surgery with the unqualified cosmetic surgery the stitches burst open and the implants began sagging out of the incision. There is an investigation currently underway to determine what happened with the surgery that was performed by Dr Ashish Dutta. It has been proven that the doctor inappropriately inserted the extra-large implants and that he also failed to provide her with a referral for a second opinion. He is also under masturbation for calling himself what is known in the United Kingdom as a “consultant cosmetic surgeon” which meant he did not have the qualifications to conduct invasive plastic surgery procedures. Dr. Dutta denies any wrongdoing and has declined all comment. Andrea Scott has had to carry out a string of subsequent surgeries and has spent the equivalent of more than $55,296 out-of-pocket to correct the atrocities that happened as a result of the surgery. She had four operations over a period of 18 months and says that she is left with both psychological as well as physical scars have a negative effect on her business and social relationships. Dr. Stuart Kincaid is considered to be an expert in breast augmentation using extra-large breast implants. As an ASPS board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stuart Kincaid understands the necessary requirements for preparing the patient both physically as well as mentally for breast augmentation using extra-large implants. While complications can occur with any surgery, the best way to reduce the risk of complications is to select a well-qualified and experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. Stuart Kincaid. Dr. Stuart Kincaid is committed to a thorough assessment of the patient prior to surgery, to determine if in fact they are a good candidate for the procedure. Dr. Stuart Kincaid welcomes patients who are considering breast augmentation with either extra-large implants or the more popular sizes, to schedule a consultation to determine if breast augmentation is right for them.

Breast augmentation is the number one cosmetic surgical procedure performed in United States. In Southern California many would consider the procedure routine because of the prevalence of women who have undergone the surgery. There is an abundance of information available for women who are considering breast augmentation, and thanks to the Internet women who are considering breast augmentation can become confused and overwhelmed by the information rather quickly. Patients who schedule a consultation with Dr. Stuart Kincaid are informed of not only the benefits and limitations of breast augmentation, but also the types of breast implants available and which recommendation is best for them. It is virtually impossible to choose a breast implant as the best recommendation for a patient who has not been examined by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon. Dr. Stuart Kincaid is highly trained with different types of breast implants and explains to patients that the breast implants are “tools” designed to help him achieve the patient’s desired appearance. Using different types of implants, including silicone gel implants, saline implants, different profiles and shapes of implants, allow Dr. Stuart Kincaid to truly customize a breast augmentation that is most likely to meet or exceed the patient’s expectations. It is important for patients to realize that every patient has some sort of breast asymmetry. Some patients have a wider rib cage, others may have a breast fold that’s higher on one side than the other, or some may have a noticeable indentation on the chest wall. These are all situations that will not change based on having breast augmentation, so, Dr. Stuart Kincaid uses his surgical expertise and artistic talent to choose the right breast implant that will give the best aesthetic appearance, taking into consideration the aspects of the patient that will not change with the breast augmentation procedure. Dr. Stuart Kincaid offers breast implants from all three FDA approved breast implant manufacturers. Dr. Stuart Kincaid uses breast measurements combined with the patient’s expectations and desires to make the best recommendation for each patient concerning which breast implants will help them to achieve their desired appearance. In some cases, Dr. Stuart Kincaid may recommend a breast lift combined with breast augmentation for the best aesthetically pleasing result. Dr. Stuart Kincaid encourages patients to schedule a consultation to determine if breast augmentation is a desirable solution for them.

Although plastic surgery is an individual decision is easy to get caught up in believing that plastic surgery can achieve certain goals that it cannot. Patients should approach the plastic surgery process with an open mind. Prior to a plastic surgery consultation patient should consider all outside research as information that is general, and understand that it can change once they have a true consultation with Dr. Stuart Kincaid. This includes information from the Internet, friends, family, television and other sources. Dr. Stuart Kincaid examines every patient who is considering plastic surgery and makes recommendations based on his medical knowledge, surgical expertise, and experience. Cosmetic plastic surgery is intended to enhance one’s appearance not replace or substitute. This means that patient should consider breast augmentation for example as an enhancement of what currently exist, and not a replacement. This means that while Dr. Stuart Kincaid can help to enhance the look of the breast through breast augmentation with implants and possibly a breast lift he is still limited by the patient’s own physical attributes. These could include but are not limited to the chest wall, the amount of skin, the amount of existing breast tissue and more. Patients should realize that an enhancement will create a more aesthetically pleasing look; however, the breast will still maintain the same basic characteristics including where they sit on the chest wall and the existing cleavage line. Meeting and exceeding the expectations of patients is critical in creating a satisfying patient experience. Dr. Stuart Kincaid and his staff are committed to providing the best patient experience possible.

The world was shocked late last year to learn that breast implant manufacturer PIP was responsible for selling faulty breast implants to other countries outside of the US. Many women became panicked and demanded the breast implants be removed due to possible future health risks. According to a recent local article approximately 47,000 British women are assumed to have been implanted with the PIP implants, which were filled with industrial, rather than medical-grade, silicon. The government retained Bruce Keogh, medical director of Britain’s National Health Service, to open up an investigation last December to determine what threat, if any, the breast implants posed to the woman’s health. Keogh analyzed the 240,000 implants of differing brands that have been implanted in 130,000 women in England and reviewed the data from differing countries including France and Australia. On Monday, he indicated that his studies showed the PIP implants were more likely to rupture when compared to other brands, but do not expose the patient to long-term health risk for the women who have them. He reported that repeated tests in several countries proved that the implants are not toxic. “Therefore we do not believe the breast implants are a threat to the long-term health of women who have PIP implants,” he said. “We have, however, found that these implants are substandard when compared to other implants and that they are more likely to rupture.” Dr. Stuart Kincaid empathizes to his patients that these specific faulty breast implants were not approved for use in the United States. Patients who traveled abroad for breast augmentation or breast lift with augmentation surgery could have been implanted with PIP implants. Currently Mentor Corporation an FDA approved manufacturer is offering a compassionate incentive to help women who have PIP implants to have them removed. Patients can receive a $250 American Express gift certificate when they have their PIP implants removed and Mentor breast implants implanted. The offer is good for either silicone or saline replacement. The controversial PIP implants will be a sore spot for plastic surgeons and patients for quite some time. Patient should remove PIP implants and replace with FDA approved breast implants. Dr. Stuart Kincaid offers a complimentary consultation to help patients determine the best options for exchanging the existing PIP implants for the FDA approved breast implants.

Something exciting is happening at the plastic surgery office of Dr. StuartKincaid in San Diego and Temecula. The new FDA approved silicone gel Sientra breastimplants will soon be available as an option for patients considering breastaugmentation or breastreconstruction. The new Sientra implants have been available outside of the US; however, they have just achieved FDA approval recently. Neither of the two major silicone gel implant manufacturers with FDA approval, which include Allergan and Mentor offer a line of breast implants exclusively through board-certified plastic surgeons. Sientra breast implants are only available through board-certified plastic surgeons because of the expertise required when using the wide range of breast implant options Sientra makes available. Dr. Stuart Kincaid is able to use his ASPS board certification and training to make the best breast implant selection for breast augmentation patients. As a talented and artistic plastic surgeon Dr. Stuart Kincaid realizes the vast differences between each patient’s body type, chest wall, and aesthetic desires. To best meet the desires of a patient Dr. Stuart Kincaid must take into consideration many of the patient’s physical attributes. Sientra breast implants offer many different shapes and profiles so that Dr. Stuart Kincaid is able to use the breast implants as tools to achieve a specific contour and shape for the patient. This can be extremely critical especially in patients who have a concave chest wall, a barrel chest, or scoliosis. Traditional round silicone implants could create an undesirable and an aesthetically pleasing look on these types of patients. Dr. Stuart Kincaid may suggest the high projection round silicone gel breast implant which can work perfectly for patients who need more projection in the upper portion of the breast and wider projection through the middle portion of the breast. This implant is unique to the Sientra breast implant line. Patients should contact Dr. Stuart Kincaid’s office to determine if the Sientra breast implant line is a good breast augmentation or breast reconstruction option for them. Could it be that like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory -we could actually indulge in chocolate on a daily basis and make ourselves thinner? If so, there must be a catch. Right? According to recent CNN localonlinearticle, here’s the scoop: Dr. Beatrice Golomb, associate professor of medicine at University of California, San Diego, has published a study in the Archives of Internal Medicine associating regular chocolate consumption with a lower body mass index, or BMIGolomb and her team surveyed 1,018 men and women aged 20 to 85 years old about their weekly consumption of food. Those who reported that they ate chocolate on a frequent basis had lower BMIs. Even more alarming, the lower BMI group did not report consuming less calories or working out more than their more obese counterparts in the study. “That does not mean that you can eat unbounded amounts of chocolate,” Golomb says. Here comes the catch. The research is intriguing and quite interesting. Golomb had theorized that the metabolic benefits of chocolate – characteristics that would moderately increase your metabolism – would throw off the calories eaten. “I wasn’t bold enough to conjecture that the net effect would be favorable.” But that’s what the results showed Golomb added. Studies have shown for years the heart-healthy benefits of eating moderately small amounts of chocolate, says registered dietician Nancy Copperman, director of Public Health Initiatives at the North Shore-LIJ Health System in New York. Dark chocolate specifically is high in anti-oxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties. It appears as though medical professionals are not ready to claim the benefits of chocolate as a cure-all to obesity. As a matter of fact, just this week the New England Journal of Medicine concluded that for morbidly obese patients suffering from type II diabetes, bariatricsurgery is a more effective treatment than medical therapies. Proving that , remedies for obesity continue to be on the forefront of research. What many patients do not realize, especially those who have lost a massive amount of weight, the excess skin that is left behind can be extremely debilitating. It is not just a matter of appearance; it can also cause skin irritation and hygiene concerns. Patients complain mostly of loose skin on the arms, lower abdomen, and breast. Most often, Dr. StuartKincaid will recommend a brachioplasty for the arms, and an abdominoplasty for the abdomen, and a breastliftand/or reductionfor the breast. All of these procedures are rather invasive are typically done in stages rather than all at one time. Obesity should be approached based on three results: #1 losing the weight, #2 maintaining a stable weight, #3restoring the body to its best health and appearance. Unless a person addresses all three areas they are highly likely to regain the weight. Become a Fan on Facebook Follow us on Twitter More on Dr.Kincaid

When the Aeroshot was announced late last year for introduction to the market medical experts were alarmed to learn that the product carried large amounts of caffeine. According to a recent Channel 10 news report in February product inventor David Edwards told CNN Aeroshot was safe and comprehensively tested before it was introduced. There are energy shots on the exchange that have 10 times the amount of caffeine in a solitary energy shot than we have in the AeroShot. The fact is we don’t have that much caffeine in the product he said. One AeroShot contains 100 milligrams of caffeine dispensed in three to six puffs. For most healthy adults 200mg to 300mg, are acceptable doses of caffeine or about two to four cups of brewed coffee a day aren’t hazardous according to The Mayo Clinic. It warns that more than 500-600 milligrams daily can cause problems such as excessive alertness, elevated heart rate, muscle tremors, and abdomen upset. U S Sen Charles Schumer( D )New York, sent a letter in December urging the FDA to appraise the safety and legality of AeroShot. “The bottom line is this product asks more questions than we have answers, and to have it on our shelves preceding those questions being answered, this is a serious, serious ,serious mistake “he said in a news conference in February. AeroShot falls under FDA regulations for dietary supplements. Those products include vitamin C pills, some weight loss products and certain energy drinks. The business making them is responsible for determining that the dietary supplements it manufactures or distributes are safe and that any representations or claims constructed about them are truthful, by acceptable corroboration to show that they are not fictitious or erroneous according to the FDA website. It’s uncommon for the agency to disallow a supplement. It stopped the sale of the diet supplement Ephedra but only after deaths and adjunct comprehensive side effects were broadcast. In ordinary circumstances plastic surgeons would not concentrate on elevated caffeine intake for patients. Products such as AeroShot could raise slight concerns for patients considering surgery. For example, patients may believe that because they are not permitted to have anything to eat or drink the morning of surgery that having a “puff” or two of this caffeine laced product will not affect their surgery. This could be a problem since medical professionals are concerned with elevated levels of caffeine causing jitteriness and increased heart rate. Dr. Stuart Kincaid speaks to his patients not only concerning their health but also their lifestyle. Patients considering breast procedures including breast augmentation, breast reduction, or breast lift are asked about the consistency of their breast tissue and if in fact they have concerns with a lumpy bumpy consistency to their breast tissue. For some patients caffeine increases the tendency to have this consistency. Many primary care physicians advise their patients who have this concern to limit their caffeine intake. Dr. Stuart Kincaid is concerned for his patient’s health as well as well their results.

For most people midafternoon can be a difficult time to get through without feeling hungry. Afternoon snacks can be the source of unwanted weight gain that seems to sneak up on the waistline. According to a recent Channel 10 news story ice cream and chips do represent a fast-track to happiness. A load of simple carbohydrates provides an instant lift because carbohydrates trigger the rapid release of serotonin, the mood-elevating “happy hormone.” When the brain produces serotonin, we experience a calming effect.
Sounds good, but the problem that comes into play with a simple carb overload is that it sets off a physiological chain reaction that wreaks havoc on the body. It also taxes the adrenals, suppresses the immune system for hours after intake and generally leaves a person feeling sluggish and off-kilter. And then there’s the sugar crash. Who has not felt this? We know the end of the story ends up on your waistline. One of the best ways to stay motivated about maintaining your best appearance is to make an investment in achieving your best appearance. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains to his patients that an investment in liposuction and breast augmentation can totally transform a woman’s contour and shape. These very popular procedures have allowed many patients to return to what is an enviable figure regardless of their age. Many patients tell Dr. Stuart Kincaid that after surgery they are able to choose the wardrobe that they really want instead of the one that fits their age. These procedures truly help a woman to look as good as she feels. Become a Fan on Facebook Follow us on Twitter More on Dr.Kincaid

It’s not surprising that women and men are confused about when to screen for certain types of cancers. We have seen guidelines shift over the last few years to less testing. According to a recent online health magazine “It’s difficult to accept that having less testing is either as good or even better than having more,” said Dr. Robert Mayer, faculty vice president for academic affairs at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. The most controversial recommendation came from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), a government body that publishes screening guidelines. It set off a media frenzy two years ago when it announced that mammograms may not benefit women in their 40s, while women aged 50 to 74 could safely undergo screening once every two years instead of annually. The American Cancer Society still stands by its recommendation. Dr. Stuart Kincaid empathizes with both the male and female patients who struggle with these very issues as they try to be proactive about their aging health care. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains that it is important for his breast surgery patients to be proactive about their breast health following breast augmentation, breast lift, or breast reduction. Patients should follow the guidelines for monthly breast self exam and a yearly mammogram after 40 regardless of the fact that they have had breast surgery. Patients who have a family history of breast cancer or other risk factors should cosult with their primary care physician to determine if more aggressive screening would be beneficial. Male and female patients should have a complete physical once a year, including all recommended cancer screenings based on their age or other risk factors.
