Should You Disclose Plastic Surgery When Dating?

Thursday, July 5th, 2012

dating couple3 Should You Disclose Plastic Surgery When Dating? Dating has changed significantly over the years mostly because of the Internet. The Internet has allowed what used to be a fairly intimate process conducted within the circle of people that you meet in your daily social settings, to a scenario that appears to mean ”the world is your oyster”. Internet dating is heavily dependent upon pictures and most every site makes it very clear that the more pictures a profile has the more likely they are to receive responses. Obviously appearance has a lot to do with success in dating, at least on the Internet. So, plastic surgery is likely to help most people achieve their best most youthful appearance. Older adults as well as younger adults are likely to at least wonder if the person in the profile picture have had plastic surgery. A man looking at a beautiful woman in her late 20s to mid 30s who has had children and has a perfect figure is likely to wonder if she has had a tummy tuck or breast augmentation. A woman looking at a man in his mid-60s with virtually no wrinkles is likely to wonder if he has had a facelift. So, if you are one of the people who has made the decision to have plastic surgery to maintain your best appearance should you tell the person that you are dating? Dr. Stuart Kincaid advises patients throughout the plastic surgery experience to be proud of their decision; however to remember that their choices are personal. Patient should not disclose any information that they do not feel comfortable disclosing. Support for plastic surgery decisions is important because most people who have plastic surgery do so in part with the intention that it will increase their self-esteem and self-confidence. When patients have to defend their decision it can undermine their self-esteem and self-confidence. Looking good and feeling good is the ultimate goal so a patient’s decisions to disclose plastic surgery while dating should remain personal and should only happen when the patient feels 100% comfortable with the other person.

Skin Cancer Prevention May Be a New Reason for Having Your Morning Java

Monday, July 2nd, 2012

A good cup of coffee Skin Cancer Prevention May Be a New Reason for Having Your Morning Java There have been numerous coffee benefits discovered throughout the years. A new study indicates that coffee may help to prevent some forms of skin cancer. According to a recent online article a study published July 1 in the journal Cancer Research implies that consuming coffee may reduce the risk of developing basal cell carcinoma which is the most common form of skin cancer.  The study also discovered that tea with caffeine; colas and even chocolate also seem to reduce the risk as well. Female participants who consumed in excess of 3 cups of caffeinated coffee daily were 21% less likely to develop skin cancer compared with women who consumed less than one cup every month. In contrast male participants experienced a reduction risk that was 10%. “It’s the caffeine that’s most likely responsible for the beneficial effect,” said study co-author Jiali Han, an associate professor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, in Boston. “Caffeine inhibits tumor progression. We saw the effect in mice and thought we should do this research to see if it applies to humans, too.” Han added that it is likely that increasing the amount of caffeine consumption would correlate with risk reduction however he does not recommend caffeine consumption for everyone.  Dr. Stuart Kincaid informs patients that skin cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer. Patient should wear sunscreen daily and avoid excessive sun exposure as one of the best ways to prevent skin cancer. Excessive sun exposure is also to blame for premature aging and wrinkling especially on the face. Dr. Stuart Kincaid encourages patients to be proactive concerning aging on the face as it is much more difficult to maintain a youthful appearance on skin that has been damaged by the sun. Dr. Stuart Kincaid offers many options for maintaining your most youthful appearance. Often he may suggest laser resurfacing as a way to treat existing sun damaged skin and allow the opportunity for new skin to develop. Dr. Stuart Kincaid may also recommend dermal fillers including Restylane and Juvederm to help add volume in areas where it has been lost in the face. This too can help with the appearance of aging. Dr. Stuart Kincaid also offers medical grade skin care treatments and medical grade skin care products to ensure patients maintain healthy skin. Dr. Stuart Kincaid encourages patients to schedule consultation to determine the best way to treat existing sun damage and begin a skin care regimen that will help them to maintain their most healthy skin.

Dessert with Breakfast Could Actually Help with Weight Loss

Wednesday, June 27th, 2012

chocolate cupcakes2 Dessert with Breakfast Could Actually Help with Weight Loss Who doesn’t love this story? A recent study indicated that having dessert with breakfast can actually help with weight loss goals. According to a local online article beginning your morning with a high-protein food along with a “dessert” — similar to a doughnut or a slice of cake -could actually help you lose weight and maintain the weight loss, a new study suggests. However, as you might imagine many nutritionists reported they were unwilling to concur with the study’s findings. Researchers from Tel Aviv University’s Wolfson Medical Center in Israel did a comparative analysis of two diet regimens — one was comprised of a low-carbohydrate breakfast, the other included a high-protein, high-carb breakfast — the sweets-with-breakfast participants lost more weight after a period of eight months. “Although dietary restriction often results in initial weight loss, the majority of obese dieters fail to maintain their reduced weight,” reported the study’s authors. Diet-related weight loss often ignites hunger and cravings while reducing suppression of ghrelin, a hormone that ignites hunger, the researchers said. This may actually increase weight gain. But, a high protein and carbohydrate breakfast could help to override these impending changes and prevent obesity relapse, they concluded. The conclusions are scheduled for presentation Monday at the Endocrine Society’s annual meeting in Houston. It is not surprising that these findings are controversial. Regulating food intake especially sweets that the body craves can be extremely difficult. Dr. Stuart Kincaid consults with patients who have made the commitment to a healthy lifestyle including diet and exercise. For these patients it can be incredibly frustrating when there unable to achieve the body contour that they desire. Often they blame themselves and believe that if they tried harder the result would be different. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains that there are many different factors that affect body contour and shape. These include but are not limited to genetics, hormones, and aging. Liposuction is an extremely effective body contouring cosmetic plastic surgery procedure. Liposuction allows Dr. Stuart Kincaid to expertly sculpt the body in most every area. This includes areas that are virtually impossible to change with diet and exercise. Areas like the knees, ankles, upper back, and chin can be sculpted by Dr. Stuart Kincaid with precision and artistic talent helping patients to achieve the appearance they desire. For patients who are concerned about the contour of their abdomen, Dr. Stuart Kincaid may recommend an abdominoplasty if there is a large amount of loose and lax skin. This procedure can be combined with liposuction which will allow Dr. Stuart Kincaid to create a beautiful waist enhancement. Patients are encouraged to schedule a consultation with Dr. Stuart Kincaid to determine if liposuction is an option for helping them to achieve the body contour that they desire.

Plastic Surgery Blog: Is Plastic Surgery the Right Choice for You?

Tuesday, June 19th, 2012

woman thinking9 Plastic Surgery Blog: Is Plastic Surgery the Right Choice for You?Although plastic surgery is an individual decision is easy to get caught up in believing that plastic surgery can achieve certain goals that it cannot. Patients should approach the plastic surgery process with an open mind. Prior to a plastic surgery consultation patient should consider all outside research as information that is general, and understand that it can change once they have a true consultation with Dr. Stuart Kincaid. This includes information from the Internet, friends, family, television and other sources. Dr. Stuart Kincaid examines every patient who is considering plastic surgery and makes recommendations based on his medical knowledge, surgical expertise, and experience. Cosmetic plastic surgery is intended to enhance one’s appearance not replace or substitute. This means that patient should consider breast augmentation for example as an enhancement of what currently exist, and not a replacement. This means that while Dr. Stuart Kincaid can help to enhance the look of the breast through breast augmentation with implants and possibly a breast lift he is still limited by the patient’s own physical attributes. These could include but are not limited to the chest wall, the amount of skin, the amount of existing breast tissue and more. Patients should realize that an enhancement will create a more aesthetically pleasing look; however, the breast will still maintain the same basic characteristics including where they sit on the chest wall and the existing cleavage line. Meeting and exceeding the expectations of patients is critical in creating a satisfying patient experience. Dr. Stuart Kincaid and his staff are committed to providing the best patient experience possible.

Plastic Surgery Blog: You’ve lost the Weight Now What?

Tuesday, June 19th, 2012

spanx Plastic Surgery Blog: Youve lost the Weight Now What?It can be very frustrating for patients who have lost a significant amount of weight. While on the surface there are many compliments on the challenge they have faced and the fact that they have overcome the odds. But beneath the surface for many patients there is a significant amount of loose skin that reminds them every day of their weight loss. Some patients wear full body spanxs which helped to hold the skin tight, at least from an appearance perspective. But, as the summer months get underway spanxs underneath close can be extremely uncomfortable. Many patients consult with Dr. Stuart Kincaid to determine what their options are for eliminating loose and lax skin on their arms, abdomen, and ou thighs. For many patients it’s not just a cosmetic issue. Skin folds can be not only uncomfortable but can sweat and develop rashes and infections. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains to patients after weight loss that post massive weight loss surgery is the only truly effective way to remove a significant amount of loose skin. For the abdomen Dr. Stuart Kincaid will typically recommend an abdominoplasty. For most patients who have lost weight an extended incision may be necessary to obtain the best aesthetic results. For the thighs Dr. Stuart Kincaid will typically recommend a thigh lift which will allow him to lift up the excess skin and remove it leaving tighter more toned looking legs. For the arms Dr. Stuart Kincaid will typically recommend a brachioplasty or arm lift. This will allow him to remove the excess skin on the underside of the arm utilizing an incision that is well hidden on the underside of the arm. Patients are overwhelmingly thrilled with the results Dr. Stuart Kincaid can deliver after patients have lost weight. In some cases Dr. Stuart Kincaid may recommend that patients have the surgeries performed separately to ensure safety and maximize the results. Patients are encouraged to consult with Dr. Stuart Kincaid and determine if post massive weight loss surgery is a viable option for them.

Plastic Surgery Blog: You Can Eat Healthy and Stay On a Budget

Friday, June 8th, 2012

Healthy foods3 Plastic Surgery Blog: You Can Eat Healthy and Stay On a BudgetIt is no secret that eating healthy helps you to look and feel better. But, the overall contention is that eating healthy is expensive. A recent local online news article gave some helpful tips for eating healthy and staying on a budget. According to the article preparing more meals at home and including healthy foods like vegetables, whole grains and beans purchased at your local store with incentives and discounted coupons is an effective way to watch your waistline and wallet at the same time. Be Make an effort to sit down, write and prepare a shopping list with healthy choices and do not deviate from it. Here are a few other helpful tips that were included in the article:

• Tour the store and look for the healthy choices which tend to be hidden behind sugary and high calorie choices.

• Generic brands are perfectly fine. Check the nutritional label for ingredients compared to the national brand and if they are comparable ; buy them.

• Buy in bulk, and learn to use them many different types of nutritious meals.

• Frozen fruits and vegetables will keep longer than fresh and are not packed in sugary substances or those high in sodium.

• Buy what is in season. These are most likely to be in on sale

Dr. Stuart Kincaid empathizes with his patients who make every effort to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle. Body contouring procedures including abdominoplasty and liposuction have long-term results that are heavily dependent upon the patient’s commitment to maintaining a stable weight. Some patients are misled to believe that because they have had liposuction, that the fat has been removed and that they cannot regain the weight. This is untrue. Even though some of the fat cells have been removed through the liposuction process there are fat cells that remain. These remaining fat cells can be overpowered if the patient is not good about diet and exercise. Once the fat cells are overpowered the likelihood of gaining weight is significantly increased. Patients who have had abdominoplasty can also regain weight and stretch the skin. This would compromise the aesthetic result of their abdominoplasty. The overwhelming majority of patients maintain a lifetime result after making the investment in abdominoplasty or liposuction. Dr. Stuart Kincaid over the years has a multitude of patients who have kept amazing their  body contouring results for lifetime.

Plastic Surgery Blog: Is Tumescent Liposuction Old School and Antiquated?

Thursday, June 7th, 2012

Women and weight loss7 Plastic Surgery Blog: Is Tumescent Liposuction Old School and Antiquated?Plastic surgery has seen some of the most sweeping advancements in cosmetic surgery procedures over the last decade, than ever before. As the economic climate shifted, and more people became interested and able to afford plastic surgery, procedures became commodities that were paraded in front of prospective patient in the most attractive packaging possible. Since liposuction is the most sought after cosmetic surgery procedure, it is not surprising that it was one of the first procedures to become a target of overzealous marketing. As liposuction became more popular more medical professionals made the decision to try their hand at performing the procedure. Some were doing so with only a weekend course of instruction prior to performing the procedure on patients. New methods, techniques, and medical devices for liposuction were also introduced most with the promise of less downtime, less bruising, and the need to eliminate general or IV sedation. Of course, the new methods were created with the concept of less cost to the patient. Tumescent method of liposuction is the original method designed to flood the cavity with a saline solution allowing the fat to be visible so that the surgeon can systematically suction the fat while toning the area and improving contour. While the tumescent method does cause bruising in most cases it continues to be extremely effective and overall cost effective as it allows for aggressive body contouring. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains to patients that the method of liposuction is of importance however the skill and experience of the plastic surgeon is highly dependent upon the results a patient can expect. Dr. Stuart Kincaid takes pride in his patient gallery chocked full of before and after examples of liposuction patients. Dr. Stuart Kincaid is also candid with patients who based on their weight, skin laxity, or other specific issue will not be good candidates for liposuction. For some patients he may recommend an abdominoplasty combined with liposuction as an alternative. The bottom line is Dr. Stuart Kincaid will not recommend liposuction for patients who are not likely to have a satisfying outcome.  Become a Fan on Facebook         Follow us on Twitter    More on Dr.Kincaid

Plastic Surgery Blog: Severe Hypertension May Have a New Treatment

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

high blood pressure2 Plastic Surgery Blog: Severe Hypertension May Have a New TreatmentHeart disease is the number one killer of women. One of the indicators of possible heart disease is high blood pressure. Many women do not even know that they have it. According to recent local article a new treatment may make it easier to control. According to the article even though there are an arsenal of drugs, millions of people in the United States still have their blood pressure at unsafe levels. Now, in a somewhat unconventional experiment at dozens of hospitals, scientists are testing a significantly different approach for the parties to treat patients, by destroying some overactive nerves throughout the body that can accelerate rising blood pressure. To try an invasive treatment – a catheter is threaded through blood vessels in the groin up to the kidneys – this treatment shows doctors’ frustration with a disease that is so many times underrated because people with it don’t look or feel sick until it is too late because the damage has been done. Dr. Stuart Kincaid sometimes meets with patients who are unaware that their blood pressure is elevated. This is more the case with older patients who consult with Dr. Stuart Kincaid for procedures like facelift, brow lift, or blepharoplasty. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains to patients that it is imperative that their blood pressure is under control prior to surgery especially for facial rejuvenation procedures. Specifically, blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery can have increased risk in patients who have high blood pressure. Pressure behind the eyes after surgery can cause serious complications. For some patients, this is the first time that they have addressed their high blood pressure and now they are able to have it treated through their primary care physician. Once their blood pressure is under control in most cases Dr. Stuart Kincaid can perform the surgery. As an ASPS board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stuart Kincaid follows the recommended medical guidelines prior to surgery to help ensure patients safety.   Become a Fan on Facebook   Follow us on Twitter More on Dr.Kincaid

Plastic Surgery Blog: Teens are Likely to Have Problems for Obesity into Adulthood

Thursday, May 24th, 2012

obese teenage girl Plastic Surgery Blog: Teens are Likely to Have Problems for Obesity into AdulthoodObesity is not only a problem for American adults but also a problem for US teens. According to recentarticle about 22 percent of today’s teens have borderline-high or already high LDL cholesterol — this is the cholesterol that is known as the bad type. And 15 percent have pre-diabetes or diabetes, based on the new research derived from data spanning from 1999 to 2008. When the study authors reviewed the year-by-year differences, one risk factor was evident. At the onset of the study period, the rate of pre-diabetes/diabetes was 9 percent. By the conclusion of the study, that number was 23 percent. Pre-diabetes and diabetes was elevated over time among adolescents, reported the study’s lead author, Ashleigh May, an epidemiologist at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. May added that the rates of pre-diabetes/diabetes as well as the other cardiovascular risk factors were elevated as weight increased. The study was posted online May 21, and will be published in the June print issue of Pediatrics. A number of teens who struggle with obesity are also affected by excessive breast tissue which can cause concerns and problems that contribute to obesity. Dr. StuartKincaid consults with parents of female teenagers, who have excessive breast tissue that causes them pain in their neck, shoulders, and back. In many cases this prevents the teen from being able to exercise effectively and maintain a stable healthy weight. Typically Dr. Stuart Kincaid will recommend a breastreduction. This procedure allows him to remove the excess breast tissue and in some cases perform liposuctionon the lateral chest wall for more aesthetically pleasing as well as functional result. In male patientsbreast reduction surgery is called gynecomastia. This can affect both overweight males as well as normal weight males. Dr. Stuart Kincaid performs gynecomastia surgery excising the breast tissue and creating a much more aesthetically pleasing and proportionate looking chest.    Become a Fan on Facebook      Follow us on Twitter        More on Dr.Kincaid

Plastic Surgery Blog: Body Building Supplements Could Cause Liver Damage

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

muscular man1 Plastic Surgery Blog: Body Building Supplements Could Cause Liver DamageBodybuilders have been known to you supplements to accelerate muscle growth. According to recentonlinearticle body-building and weight-loss supplements are the kind of dietary products most likely to cause liver injury, according to a small new study. Liver injury from medication is the number one reason drugs are banned from the market. Dietary and herbal supplements — which do not need a doctor’s prescription and can be purchased over the counter or online — are consumed by up to 40 percent of residents in the United States, but their risk of harmful side effects are not well-documented. In this study, supported by the U.S. Drug-Induced Liver Injury Network, researchers looked at 109 instances of patients who seemed to have suffered liver injury because of dietary supplements. Most of the patients were men, white and obese. The study discovered that supplements for body building and weight loss were more commonly the cause of liver injury. The results are prepared to be presented today at the Digestive Disease Week meeting in San Diego. “There is so little regulation of the many products on the market,” study leader Dr. Victor Navarro, professor of medicine, pharmacology and experimental therapies at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, said in a meeting news release. “We couldn’t possibly begin to figure out which products to target first without doing this research.” Dr. StuartKincaid consults with many men who have taken supplements and in some cases even steroids as part of their bodybuilding lifestyle. For some of these men they developed excessive breast tissue which is also known as gynecomastiaas a result. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains to patientsthat gynecomastia surgery is more than just liposuctionof the chest. It is imperative that the breast tissue is removed or after surgery the chest will not be flat. Dr. Stuart Kincaid also uses his reconstructive expertise to achieve a more natural outcome so that it is not evident that the patient has had surgery. Most men tell Dr. Stuart Kincaid after surgery that having surgery was one of the best decisions that they ever made. For many men it is an immediate boost of self-esteem and self-confidence.   Become a Fan on Facebook       Follow us on Twitter More on Dr.Kincaid
