Exercise can be boring and keeping people motivated can be a chore. We have seen many different props come into the exercise regimen. Some of these include: exercise balls, spin cycles, jump ropes, fitness poles and more. The latest craze, according to Channel 10 news is the addition of the drum. That’s right, the exercise ball and two drumsticks are constantly beat in unison with other participants for what promises to be a fully engaging and intense work out. According to the news story Drums Alive is only getting started in the United States, having been introduced here less than a decade ago.  A one-hour class offers a fast-paced workout that can burn up to 400 calories. As in any other group fitness class, an instructor offers direction, telling people when to pound on their exercise balls, when to click their sticks and when to drum on a neighbor’s ball as up-tempo music — much of which can be traced to specific cultures — blares. And while pounding or clicking the drumsticks, participants sometimes dance around the balls, or do squats and lunges. The movements engage the core and can leave participants drenched in sweat. It can be very discouraging for people who exercise on a regular basis notice areas of the fat that seem to be impossible to get rid of. Often these fat pockets appear on the outer thighs, lower back, or love handles, are stubborn and do not respond positively to diet and exercise. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains to his patients that these fat pockets could in fact be genetic in nature and that their body could be predisposed to holding fat in specific areas. Dr. Stuart Kincaid recommends liposuction as an effective way to tone and sculpt the body creating a more proportionate and aesthetically pleasing shape. Patients who have loose skin on the abdomen may need to combine an abdominoplasty with liposuction to remove the excess skin. This procedure will increase the recovery however liposuction alone does not tighten skin to the extent that it would provide an acceptable result.
