The benefits of tea have long been noted as valuable herbal supplements. Now, the latest trend is true social networking with tea time. This is valuable because caffeine consumption is a concern for many people and tea has less caffeine than coffee. Some breast augmentation patients tell Dr. Stuart Kincaid that they have concerns with a lumpy and bumpy consistency to their breast tissue which seems to get worse if they are drinking a lot of caffeinated drinks. Breast augmentation or breast reduction does not usually change this tendency for patients who already have it. Reducing the amount of caffeinated drinks will still be advised after surgery. Switching to tea may in fact be a great option. According to Sign on San Diego research studies show that tea can be beneficial to your whole body. The most popular types of tea are black, green, white and oolong. All these colorful tea types come from the same plant, Camellia sinensis. The degree of processing of the leaves of the plant determines if the tea will be green, black or oolong. These teas from the Camellia plant are rich in polyphenols, which give each tea the antioxidant properties that help fight disease and maintain good health. Drinking a couple cups of tea daily might be good for your heart, cholesterol, bones, digestion and keep you relaxed.

The financial concerns of baby boomers include health concerns according to a recent report. Dr. Stuart Kincaid helps patients who are nearing middle-age realize the importance of looking as good as you feel. Patients should begin caring for signs the aging as soon as they appear. This includes medical grade skin care as well asinjectables for noninvasive cosmetic procedures. These help the skin to maintain it’s most youthful appearance. Patients should plan for surgical procedures including a blepharoplasty and facelift in their later years. Just like any other financial investments these are much easier to afford when they are planned for in advance. Taking care of our health is a lifelong process so looking our best should be one as well. According to CBS8 many of the nation’s 77 million boomers are worried about being able to pay their medical bills as they get older, a new poll finds. The concern is so deep that it outpaces worries about facing a major illness or disease, dying, or losing the ability to do favorite activities.
Another major concern among the boomers: losing their financial independence.
The struggling economy, a longer life expectancy, ever-increasing health care costs and challenges facing Social Security are putting added pressure on the boomers, those born between 1946 and 1964.

Lately, protection from the sun has become a very important part of medical advice given to every person. Even the clothing manufacturers have taken responsibility and gotten into the act. Dr. Stuart Kincaid reminds patients that the sun has damaging rays that can not only burn skin but also cause irreversible premature aging of the skin. There are procedures that will help to minimize the negative effects, however, there is no such thing as turning back the hands of time. Procedures like laser resurfacing help to remove much of the old damaged skin and create a new softer and smoother skin surface area. Injectables including Botox and Restylane help to soften lines on the forehead and outer corners of the eyes. It is imperative that patient use sun protection including clothing and sunscreen. According to Sign on San Diego More people are thinking outside the bottle for their sun protection. The U.S. sun-protective clothing industry has more than doubled in the last decade, with now at least a dozen American manufacturers. Once sold only through catalogs from sun-savvy Australia and New Zealand, the clothing is sold year-round at U.S. sportswear shops, sporting goods and department stores and through an increasing number of websites.
The reason for its growing popularity is simple: It offers continuous sun protection without the hassle or the mess and blocks out five to 10 times the UVA and UVB rays as regular clothes.

The old saying that you can never be too rich or too thin can fuel some people to excessive behavior. Some people will exercise beyond the point of exhaustion in hopes of sculpting a body that is toned and athletic looking. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains to patients that diet and exercise have limitations when it comes to specific results. Liposuction including Zerona targets a specific area such as the upper back, love handles, or outer thighs. Dr. Stuart Kincaid is able to remove pockets of fat that create a “stuck on” appearance. This result far exceeds the results that are possible with exercise and diet alone. Over exercising is not only ineffective but also can be dangerous. According to Sign on San Diego our skeletal muscles contract to support and move our bodies, and they also store energy. There is a certain amount of energy store available for each of us, on a daily basis. The world-renowned exercise physiologist Per-Olof Åstrand and others have said that the body keeps a reserve of 70 percent of its total energy, leaving 30 percent for work, activities of daily living, and exercise (Rivard and Grimsby, 2009). The energy reserve is used for tissue recovery and repair, by building up or regenerating tissues.

Now that summer is here and it is actually warm this year, the beaches are full of sun worshipers. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains to his patients that skin cancer although it is largely preventable remains a major problem in Southern California. Sunscreen greatly reduces the risk of skin cancer when compared with unprotected skin exposed to the sun’s damaging rays. Premature aging due to excessive sun exposure can be improved with procedures such as laser resurfacing and Botox injectables. While this will make a dramatic improvement the patient must make a heartfelt commitment to avoid sun exposure for the best long-term results. The facts concerning skin cancer are readily accessible these days. According to SignonSanDiego in a world of tweets and sound bites, it can be difficult to distinguish fact from fiction. However, when it comes to skin cancer, it’s imperative to know the truth since it may help save your life. Skin cancer is the most common of all cancers, accounting for nearly half of all cancers in the United States. More than 2 million cases of non-melanoma skin cancer are found in this country each year, according to the American Cancer Society.
Melanoma, the most deadly type of skin cancer, accounted for about 68,130 cases last year and claimed approximately 8,700 lives.
However, not all the data are so dismal. More than 90 percent of skin cancers are preventable, and with early detection, the survival rate for people with the disease is about 99 percent, reports the Skin Cancer Foundation. The key to preventing and surviving skin cancer is knowing the facts about the disease and sun damage.

Optimism cannot be measured easily. Many different studies have shown that it does affect our health in a positive way. Plastic surgery experiences are also heavily dependent on the attitude of the patient. Patients having plastic surgery, experience a wide range of emotions before and after surgery. Dr. Stuart Kincaid helps patients to understand that it is normal to feel somewhat depressed at some point during recovery. When choosing to have plastic surgery patients should be in an attitude of optimism. Breast augmentation patients will often be very anxious concerning breast implant sizing and concerned that it will ultimately be disproportionate to their body and shape. If they are having a breast lift also, that can cause anxiety over the healing of the incisions. The anxiety is usually short lived. The bottom line is: most patients who are optimistic about the outcome of their surgery have a great result and great experience. Optimism really does help. For example, according to Fox5 optimists might be less likely to have a stroke . In new research, the more people believe good things will happen, the less likely they were to suffer a stroke within two years. Psychology researchers from the University of Michigan examined data from 6,044 stroke-free adults from the Health and Retirement Study. The adults answered how much they agreed with statements like “In uncertain times, I usually expect the best,” and two years later the researchers tracked which participants had suffered a stroke.
They found the more optimistic the person, the lower the stroke likelihood: On an optimism scale of 3 to 18, each point increase in optimism was associated with an approximate 10% decrease in the likelihood of having a stroke over the next two years.

Losing weight is one of the goals of most Americans. While the reasons are primarily for health, many are also motivated by the improvement in their appearance. Most patients are thrilled initially when they lose weight. The elation can quickly turn to disappointment when there are areas where more amounts of excess skin hang from the body. The areas that are usually affected are the arms, stomach, and thighs. For the arms, Dr. Stuart Kincaid recommends a brachioplasty( which uses a well hidden incision on the underside of the arm) which removes excess skin and creates toned looking arms. The abdominoplasty removes the skin that causes an abdominal pouch. A thighplasty will create much slimmer looking thighs once the excess skin is removed. Although it is common knowledge why we lose weight few are able to pin point exactly how we lose weight. According to Channel 10 you can’t change your shape, just your size. You can’t cherry-pick where you shed fat; weight loss doesn’t work like a point-and-shoot. MRIs, CT scans and dexa scans, which use X-ray beams to measure body composition, show no evidence for spot reduction. ”Basically, when we lose weight, we lose weight all over in exactly the proportion that’s distributed throughout our body,” said Susan Fried, director of the Boston Obesity and Nutrition Research Center at the Boston University School of Medicine.
A pear-shaped woman who loses weight will remain a pear, just a daintier one, say researchers who specialize in body fat. More women tend to be pear-shaped, with fat around their hips and thighs. Men tend to be apple-shaped, because they have fat that accumulates around their waist.

The birth of babies in the United States has become anything but routine. Now a new study reports that more cesarean sections are being performed than ever before. Although the reasons may vary the effects on the mother’s body after delivery are fairly consistent. Patients tell Dr. Stuart Kincaid that after their c-section losing the abdominal pouch is nearly impossible. Many of his patients are back to their normal pre-birth weight yet they are disgusted with their waist line. Dr. Stuart Kincaid recommends an abdominoplasty combined with liposuction to create a more proportionate waist line. In most cases, Dr. Stuart Kincaid will tighten and repair the abdominal muscles that were stretched and cut in the cesarean delivery. Typically he will use liposuction to eliminate love handles or fat on the lower back. Patients are thrilled with their new shape and often look better than they did prior to pregnancy. With more cesarean section births on the horizon it is almost certain that abdominoplasty will continue to increase in popularity as an effective solution. According to CBS between 2002 and 2009, the number of cesarean deliveries rose significantly, from 27 percent of births to 34 percent, finds a new report based on information from 19 U.S. states.
“C-sections are rising, and there needs to be a little bit more scrutiny from the person who is having the C-section as well as doctors and hospitals,” said report author Dr. Divya Cantor, the senior physician consultant for HealthGrades, the organization that put together the report.

Sleeping on the job would never be condoned. A recent study only strives to prove the point that we need our rest. Dr. Stuart Kincaid encourages his patients to seriously consider the effects on our health and appearance when we do not take care of ourselves including getting the proper amount of sleep. It is not uncommon for sleep deprived people to have dark circles and bags beneath their eyes. Drooping eyelids are also very common. In an effort to look more alert many patients use their muscle to raise their brow, over time this causes wrinkles. Dr. Stuart Kincaid recommends a blepharoplasty for both the upper and lower eyelids. This will remove the loose skin and eliminate the drooping eyelids and bags beneath the eyes. Botox or Dysport may be helpful in relaxing the brow muscles that are causing wrinkles to be more prominent. While this may help with the appearance patients must begin a healthy lifestyle including getting enough sleep. According to CBS 8 studies have shown that short “power naps” have a rejuvenating effect, improving reaction time and critical thinking for people impaired by drowsiness, said Dr. Alon Avidan, associate professor of neurology and associate director of the sleep disorders program at the University of California, Los Angeles.
“The data show if people take a short power nap, it actually makes them perform much better,” Avidan said. “It doesn’t disrupt their sleep. It doesn’t make them wake groggy.”

The US initiative to improve obesity rates among teenagers is an aggressive goal. According to a recent study overweight teens are not having conversations with their doctors concerning their weight. Often the excess weight gain is a result of inactivity combined with poor diet. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains to parents of teenagers, both male and female that excessive breast tissue can cause patients embarrassment (for men )and painful symptoms (for young women). Breast enlargement in males is calledgynecomastia. The surgery removes both male breast tissue as well as fat that can cause enlarged breasts. This can cause young men to skip outdoor activities that may draw attention to the enlarged breasts. In females the large breasts can cause extreme pain in neck, shoulder, and lower back. This would severely limit their physical activities. A breast reduction removes the excess breast tissue which often alleviates the pain. Dr. Stuart Kincaid encourages parents to address these concerns if they are affecting their child’s ability to participate in physical activities. According to CBS10 government advisory panels today say doctors should talk to their teen patients about weight, about how active they are, their emotions and what they’re eating. But a study in the current issue of Pediatrics found that wasn’t happening for the group that perhaps could have benefited from it most.
Teens who were already obese were more likely than normal-weight teens to receive the screenings. But those verging on obesity were not.
”The adolescents who are not yet obese, but are overweight, they’re not getting that extra attention that they should be getting based on recommendations- that’s an issue, that’s a problem,” said Dr. Carolyn Jasik, study author and assistant professor of pediatrics at University of California, San Francisco. She is also an adolescent obesity specialist
