Milk is a great source of vitamin D; sunshine is the best but has risk
According to Sign SanDiego Vitamin D is called the “sunshine vitamin” because it’s naturally produced in our skin after exposure to ultraviolet B light from the sun. Yet studies suggest much of the world’s population – young and old – is lacking in the nutrient, and that this deficiency is linked to a wide variety of diseases and conditions, from diabetes and multiple sclerosis to cancer and neurological disorders like Parkinson’s disease.
Cedric F. Garland, a professor of family and preventive medicine at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine and Moores UCSD Cancer Center, is a leading authority on vitamin D. He was among the first scientists to argue that vitamin D reduces the risk of a variety of cancers and that people don’t get enough of the nutrient.
While scientist are pretty sure that we do not get enough vitamin D, the alternatives are better than direct sunlight. Dr Stuart Kincaid warns his patients of the dangers of direct sunlight. Skin cancer and premature aging; just to name two conditions connected with too much sun exposure. Many patients are facelift candidates early as a result of extensive sun exposure. While there are skincare treatments for sun exposure the damage is often permanent and can only be minimized. Dr Stuart Kincaid urges his patients to avoid sun exposure and wear ample sunscreen.

Exercise together or alone has benefits and limitations
According to Sign on San Diego when purchasing a treadmill for your home gym, it’s important to get off on the right foot. That means not only checking out the exercise machine’s construction and capabilities, but also determining how you will use it.
Will you be walking your daily one or two miles on it at a brisk clip? Or, will you be using it for some serious training and running on it for an hour or more a day?
“If you plan on running on a treadmill, you’ll need a more durable machine,” said Paul Jackson, owner of Fitness Mart in Pacific Beach. “A treadmill used by a runner will take more abuse from the constant (foot) pounding than (a treadmill) you’re just walking on.”
Here are some tips to help find the right treadmill:
• Motor max. You need enough horsepower or you’ll burn up the motor. Look for the “continuous duty rating,” the rating for steady, 24-hour motor usage. Shop for a 1.7- to 3-horsepower continuous-duty motor. Don’t worry about the “peak duty” or “treadmill duty” ratings. The heavier the person using the machine, the bigger the motor needs to be, particularly if running instead of walking. There are more helpful tips in the article.
Dr Stuart Kincaid helps his patients to understand that there are certain things exercise just can not take care of. Some people are predisposed genetically to carry weight in certain areas of their body. Liposuction , while not a weight loss procedure can help to tone and shape the body. Patients in their best health and near their ideal body weight are the best candidates.

Sometimes religious considerations must be considered when choosing a surgery center
According to a recent local articlea San Diego hospital offers “bloodless” surgery. Hortencia Ramirez was limping and in severe pain due to needed a hip replacement. As a Jehovah’s Witness she could not undergo a blood transfusion. She had trouble finding surgeons who would do hip replacement surgery without a blood transfusion. Sharp Chula Vista’s Bloodless Medicine and Surgery Center is the only hospital in San Diego to offer bloodless surgery. Ramirez had surgery in 2008 and has been walking pain free. They opened the doors in 2003 and have since performed surgery for over 2,000 patients. Bloodless surgeries performed are heart bypass, valve replacement, joint replacement, and gall bladder removal. For surgeons to do these procedures without a transfusion it is often only a matter of training and operating slower to minimize bleeding.
People have various restrictions when it comes to surgery-especially when it comes to elective surgery. Dr.Stuart Kincaid wants his patients to know that plastic surgery is a personal choice. For many people who don’t like specific areas of their bodies their self-esteem is severely influenced. Dr. Stuart Kincaid warns his patients on the precautions of surgery as well as why plastic surgery is a great choice for some people. The ultimate decision remains with the patient.

She has begun texting her patients to help them manage their diabetes. She sends personalized weekly text messages reminding her patients to take their insulin. You may want to give up diet soda while pregnant
A recent local article revealed that diet sodas were linked to premature delivery when consumed by pregnant women. Diet carbonated drinks and to a lesser extent non-carbonated drinks were consumed by those who delivered prematurely. Premature delivery is defined by a birth that occurs before 37 weeks gestation. In a study of 60,000 women 4.6% delivered early and 1/3 were medically induced deliveries. Those who consumed artificially sweetened soda were 38% more likely to deliver prematurely. The link was not found in soda sweetened with sugar. The cause of this is unknown but researches believe it may have to due with blood pressure. Pregnant women are encouraged to focus on drinking water, juices, and milk.
Even when a baby is delivered pre-term, after a woman gives birth the body goes through various hormonal changes. For women who wish to enhance their appearance and self-esteem Dr. Stuart Kincaid offers the body contouring procedure abdominoplasty which is also known as a tummy tuck. This surgical procedure creates a flat midriff. Dr. Stuart Kincaid removes excess skin and fat from the abs while rearranging the underlying muscle for a tighter abdominal wall. Tummy tucks are often combined with liposuction for even better results.

It is important to avoid situations that can makeyou sick before your surgery
According to a recent local article six San Diego children have been diagnosed with whooping cough. A total of seven infants state wide had died from the respiratory infection which resembles a simple cold in the early stages. This year a total of 2,774 cases have been reported in California making it the worst whopping cough epidemic in 5 decades. Everyone is encouraged to get vaccinated even though infants and children are more susceptible to the disease.
Colds and other illness are never planned. For those who have scheduled a plastic surgery procedure it is important to stay as healthy as possible prior to your surgery date. If there is even a slight amount of chest congestion the risks of problems with anesthesia are amplified. It may be inconvenient to change the date of surgery but all illness should be reported to Dr. Kincaid before surgery starts. Dr. Kincaid’s informative website offers other tips for preparing for your surgery. It is wise to avoid small children if possible prior to surgery as well as public places where germs are likely to be transmitted. Getting plenty of rest and paying extra attention to your health prior to surgery is recommended.

Depression should be discussed with your surgeon prior to surgery
According to 10news.com a group of federal health experts narrowly voted to expand approval of a best-selling antidepressant on Thursday, though panelists disagreed over which types of pain the pill effectively treats.
The Food and Drug Administration is considering whether to broaden approval of Elli Lilly & Co.’s Cymbalta to treat chronic pain, a major expansion of a drug already used by 15 million U.S. patients.
An FDA panel of outside physicians voted 8-6 in favor of the broader indication, though they separately ruled that the drug did not appear effective for arthritis-related pain.
The FDA gives weight to the panel’s recommendations but is not required to follow them.
Indianapolis-based company has asked the FDA to approve its drug for chronic pain, a broad indication that encompasses more than 30 million American patients. The drug is already approved to treat depression, diabetic nerve pain and fibromyalgia.
Dr Stuart Kincaid advises his patients dealing with depression that plastic surgery is not a cure, for depression. It is important that patients carefully consider their reasons for seeking plastic surgery. Dr Stuart Kincaid discusses the reasons, risk and beneits of plastic surgery with his patients during the initial consultation as well as the pre-operative visit. Procedures like rhinoplasty, and abdominoplasty can have a longer recovery period than other plastic surgery procedures and it is important that patients have realistic expectations.

In a tight economy wise decisions are crucial
The economy remains front page news as Americans continue to search for the best values. According to Sign on SanDiego consumer prices rose 1.4 percent in San Diego County between the first half of 2009 and the first half of 2010, largely driven by the rising price of gasoline and natural gas, according to data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
But the jump in energy prices was countered by year-to-year declines in food, restaurant meals, electricity, furniture and recreation, raising concerns of deflation – a downward spiral that puts downward pressure on both prices and wages.
So-called “core” inflation – minus often-volatile fluctuations in food and energy – rose only 0.5 percent from year-to-year, a little more than half the national rate of 0.9 percent. That’s well below the 2 percent target range that economists feel is a safe boundary between deflation and inflation.
One thing that has remained consistent in the recent local economy is the value and affordability of plastic surgery with Dr Stuart Kincaid. The investment in procedures like a facelift (which can take ten years or more off of your appearance) and the mommy make-over (which can help a woman re-gain her pre-pregnancy shape) are impossible to correlate into actual dollars. Dr Stuart Kincaid offers affordable financing plans in addition to competitive pricing. His goal is to offer great results, and affordable pricing in a safe , comfortable environment.

prescription medication must be disclosed to your surgeon before surgery
According to Sign on SanDiego the second pharmacist to testify in two days at the Anna Nicole Smith drug conspiracy trial said Wednesday he warned a psychiatrist that she would wind up as a tabloid headline if she prescribed a powerful sleeping drug to the celebrity model.
Witness Steve Mazlin said he told Dr. Khristine Eroshevich, a defendant in the case, that the two drugs she was prescribing could be “a deadly combination.”
Mazlin also recalled encountering an agitated Eroshevich at the door of his pharmacy hours before it opened on Sept. 11, 2006.
“She proceeded to tell me Anna Nicole Smith’s son had just passed, and she was leaving for the Bahamas and needed to take some medications with her,” he recalled.
Dr Stuart Kincaid expresses his concern to his patients when they present themselves as plastic surgery patients yet they are taking prescription drugs. Some of the drugs are okay to continue taking before and after surgery, others are a problem and must be stopped. There are specific list that detail the drugs that are to be avoided. The surgical procedures Dr Stuart Kincaid performs all require patient compliance with medication instructions. This is imperative for patient safety.
