Broken relationships can cause bad plastic surgery experiences
The holidays highlight relationships good and bad. A recent Sign on San Diego article shared advice about bickering relationships ruining the holiday festivities. Withn plastic surgery the stakes can be much higher.
Dr Kincaid encourages his patients to maintain positive relationships throughout their plastic surgery decisions. Procedures that have an intense recovery like abdominoplasty and thighplasty should have a strong support system to assist the patient through recovery. These procedures limit the patients ability to walk alone for the first 7 -10 days. These procedures also have a moderately high level of pain and the emotional aspect of recovery could be spoiled with the bickeing of a friend or spouse. Dr Kincaid cautions his plastic surgery patients to include only the friends in which they have a positive relationship with the information of their plastic surgery decision. Friends that opposed to the patients decision to have plastic surgery should be avoided. Dr Kincaid stresses to his patients that a positive attitude will help his patient to have a positive plastic surgery experience. Although complications are rare in plastic surgery they can happen. Most patients will heal well even after a slight complication but without a good positive support system even a small complication can cause a patient a great deal of anxiety.

Age is just a number when you maintain your best appearance
The gossip lines are a buzz with the rumor that Susan Sarandon may have traded in her 51 year-old boyfriend for a 33 year-old aspiring film maker. This according to Sign on San Diego. This story just another one in the arsenal of late . From Demi and Ashton to a TV show with Courtney Cox its a story people love to read about. One thing these women have in common (admitted or not) is plastic surgery. The more popularly accepted and better tolerated continued maintenance program. This is what Dr Kincaid calls a natural approach. He suggest woman (and men) start with anti-aging procedures when they are young and first begin to see the signs of aging. This could be with injectables like Botox and dermal fillers like Juvederm . Then a mini-face lift that addresses the mid part of the face including the nasal labial folds would usually follow in 3-5 years. At the very beginning of jowling and aging in the neck a full facelift would be the recommendation . The key is to never undergo a procedure that causes the patient to look unnatural or like “they had work done”. Women who usually date younger men tend to be very conscious of their face and the look of aging skin next to their companion. Dr Kincaid helps his patients maintain thier best look by treating the aging process the same way it appears…a little at a time.

Plastic surgery decisions are not up for judging or a vote
The cultural phenomenon known as American idol is back for another season according to Fox and reported by San Diego news. The wildly popular show has helped to shift the role of the public in decision making. This has become increasingly evident in plastic surgery. Dr Kincaid often consults with his patients about an “American Idol” process in making decisions about plastic surgery. The decision could be whether or not to have the surgery or the decision as to whether or not they like the results. In an “American Idol” process a few people judge and everyone else votes. Their decisions are what matters. In plastic surgery it should be the complete opposite. The patient ultimately should be the one to decide on the surgery and the effectiveness of the result. Dr Kincaid finds that sometimes breast augmentation patients will select their implants and are elated about their decision. If the patient is not grounded in their decision one or two people making a gesture of disapproval can shift the patients happiness. Dr Kincaid counsels patients that their plastic surgery decision is personal and approval of others should never be a goal. Procedures like facelifts or liposuction that look better overt time can drawn criticism in the early period of healing . Life is not like American Idol. The winning decision belongs to the patient.

The winner of the popular show Survivor quit her job to be on the show according to the San Diego news. The gamble paid off because she won a million dollars.
It’s hard to say how many other people would have taken that chance. Dr Kincaid is seeing patients in his practice who are feeling the pinch of the economy and are looking for ways to hang on to their job. Dr Kincaid recommends that his patient try less invasive procedures at first if they believe they can not take time off from work. Dr Kincaid is one of the few practices in the area offering the new Zerona for body sculpting. The downtime is minimal and the results are impressive. Of course, the results vary from patient to patient. Another subtle and private improvement is breast augmentation. Dr Kincaid does not suggest showing off the breast augmentation; however, he knows from experience that women have heightened self confidence following plastic surgery. This can very beneficial in a working environment. Breast augmentation increases a woman’s wardrobe choices, Her body is more proportionate so she feels more beautiful.

Lady Gaga found success with a new look and image How about you?
San Diego is recovering from a sold out performance the other night where Lady Gaga sang her heart out (sort of). Our San Diego article pointed out little slip ups here and there but bottom line: San Diego LOVES her! A perfect example of reinventing yourself. Lady Gaga was basically unknown until she wore “unconventional ” clothes and smeared make-up. It’s about re-inventing and a new presentation.
Life is like that for people who are not celebrities also. The difference is our livelihood doesn’t depend on it. Or does it? Dr Kincaid consults with patients who are concerned about wrinkles and lines on the face. Often times they do not feel a sense of urgency until they see their face in a photo. They soon realize that wrinkles add years to the face . In the slow economy many of Dr Kincaid’s patients are making an effort to land new executive positions. A youthful look and image can help. Dr Kincaid recommends more permanent solutions first like a facelift, blephroplasty, and brow lift. These are the best value because the procedures collectively produce a face that typically looks 10-15 years younger than the real age. If finances are tight then Dr Kincaid will recommend, laser treatments, and injectables, Botox and Juvederm. Dr Kincaid is able to help his patients make the best presentation …always!

Jealousy should never be a motive for plastic surgery
Childhood carries with it many emotions that shape us as adults. The holidays which tend to be centered around children can breed emotions of jealousy over gifts. A recent local article gave tips to parents on how to deal with disparity between what some children receive as Christmas presents. Interestingly enough these same jealous traits can and do follow some into adult hood.
It is not uncommon for a patient to express to Dr Kincaid that she wants a breast augmentation “because all of her friends have breast implants”. Some patients will tell Dr Kincaid that they must be at least two sizes smaller than a rival friend or relative ;so they want liposuction or abdominoplasty. Dr Kincaid explains to his patients that motives for plastic surgery must be for personal gain. When patients set an expectation that consist of comparisons patients are often unhappy. There are natural markings in every person that limit the way a plastic surgery result will look. This is why no two surgery results are exactly alike. This is the main reason before and after photos are used as guidelines and not a promise of what to expect. Patients must be satisfied with themselves and be seeking only an enhancement. After all that is what cosmetic plastic surgery is.

Tipsy at the office Christmas party? Protect Your Image
Ti’s the season be jolly. It is embarrassing when the spiked company eggnog gets the best of you. It can make for a very unpleasant day AFTER the party. A recent San Diego article recommended that when this happens you take full responsibility and apologize right away. Nobody is perfect and people can be surprisingly forgiving when given the opportunity.
Dr Kincaidunderstands the value of image as a board certified plastic surgeon. An indiscretion at a company party is of course hurtful to your image. The first impression, your look, or your style should be considered important and when not well cared for, damaging. Dr Kincaid consults with his patients about maintaining a youthful appearance. Plastic surgery can help to accomplish this. Regularly scheduled skincare treatments can refresh the skin and give it a youthful glow. Wrinkles on the face can be on the jowl line, neck, aroiund the mouth or, on the brow. Any of these places will cause the patient to look older. Dr Kincaid can usually correct these with a browlift and facelift. A shapely body can also project a youthful and fit image. A flat toned stomach for both male and female patients is a huge image booster. Dr Kincaid can accomplish this with liposuction and or abdominoplasty depending on the patients needs. Dr Kincaid advises his patients to always take care of their image because that is the part of their appearance they can create.

Yoga works. But for the face? ... Not so much
Yoga is awesome for building core muscle strength and also meditation. A recent local NBC report also proclaimed yoga benefits for facial muscles. The creator went as far as to quote “if you do the exercises every day for six months, you will look like you had a face lift,” without the surgery.
After decades in plastic surgery few claims(if any) made to consumers that a procedure , product ,or technique is “like plastic surgery” actually pan out to be the truth. Dr Kincaid has learned to take these stories tongue and cheek;however, he feels compelled to alert his patients of the truth so they are making intelligent decisions. Facial yoga no doubt has certain benefits. It should strengthen the muscles thus they feel tighter. Dr Kincaid points out- the problem with the promise of a result like a face lift is the excess skin. In patients with extreme sagging in the neck or jowl line the muscle will not be able to pull the excess skin. Like sagging in the breast area which requires a breast lift, or abdominal area which requires an abdominoplasty, excess skin can only be tightened by removing excess skin.
Facial yoga has it’s benefits and on a youthful face with minimal sagging it could possibly make a visible difference. A face lift is one of the best investments that a patient can make. The results last a lifetime

The birth of a baby is beautiful and mom can be too
Birth in itself is a miracle. Channel 10 news followed a couple who had waited 15 years to have a baby. After multiple failed fertility treatments the news station reported the couple is pregnant and expecting their baby girl in a couple of months.
Dr Kincaid has treated mothers postpartum for many years. He is excited about the new plastic surgery procedures with more advanced technology he is able to offer. As a general guideline it is best to wait until the patient is at a steady weight before having any plastic surgery. Also, the patient should not be breast feeding and preferably no longer lactating. The options for the post partum body range from liposuction (which will take care of the thickness and fatty layer) to a full abdominoplasty which is more invasive and actually removes loose skin and stretch marks. A major consideration is the patients support system at home. Dr Kincaid strongly recommends someone come in to help with household chores and caring for the baby for at least three weeks for abdominoplasty patients. Dr Kincaid can perform these procedures together provided the patient is healthy and a strong recovery support team is available to assist the patient.
