Nowadays, giving the gift of plastic surgery is more popular than it was a few years ago. No longer are men and women embarrassed to give the gift of physical enhancement. In fact, many teens are frequently asking for plastic surgery like rhinoplasty, liposuction, and breast augmentation in San Diego. But now, in a new headline from the UK, a British woman known as the “Human Barbie” is passing along the gift of plastic surgery to her 7-year-old daughter.

But how young is too young?

As Surgery.org is reporting, the 51-year old Sarah Burge has given plastic surgery vouchers to her 7-year-old daughter Poppy as a Christmas stocking stuffer.

“She asks for surgery all the time,” Burge told The Daily Mail. “She wants to look good and liposuction is one of those procedures that will always come in handy.”

The voucher is not Poppy’s first, either. For the child’s birthday, her mother gave her another voucher for breast implants when she turns 16.

“Poppy begged me for a boob job, so I gave her the voucher so she can have it after she’s 16, when it’s legal,” Burge said in a British publication The Closer. “If she develops naturally big boobs, she can have something else done with it.”

The 7-year-old is thrilled at receiving her gifts, explaining, “I wanted a new computer, a holiday and a voucher for surgery. When I got it all, it was a dream come true. All my friends were jealous. I can’t wait to be like Mummy with big boobs. They’re pretty.”

Teen plastic surgery: a possibility in today’s evolving world

Gifting plastic surgery to a 7-year-old might be controversial, but ultimately, the child will use the vouchers when she’s older and likely to be in her teens. It’s more common than ever for teen girls and boys to request plastic surgery. And in California, our state is particularly ahead of the curve. If your teen is asking for plastic surgery and you believe it can help your son or daughter feel more confident about themselves, learn more about our most popularly requested surgeries below.

Breast Implants

Breast implants in San Diego are a common request among teens. Generally, parents attend consultations with their daughters to determine the right size and post-surgery expectations. Teens often heal quickly after surgery and parents are daughters are equally pleased with the results.

Rhinoplasty

If your teen is self-conscious about the appearance of her nose, parents may want to attend a plastic surgery consultation with your teen to determine if rhinoplasty is the right choice. A qualified San Diego plastic surgeon can help you determine the best procedure for your teen that’s also natural-looking.

Liposuction

Some teens elect to undergo liposuction procedures to help reduce unwanted areas of built-up fat deposits. If diet and exercise are not enough, parents and teens may want to discuss liposuction options with a knowledgeable plastic surgeon in San Diego.

Plastic surgery blog:Men who are narcissistic are more stressed study says

January 25th, 2012

stressed man1 Plastic surgery blog:Men who are narcissistic are more stressed study says

According to channel 10 a recent study pointed out that narcissistic men have higher levels of cortisol which is a stress hormone. ”The more narcissistic, the more cortisol that men have in mundane situations,” said author Sara Konrath, who is the director of the Interdisciplinary Program on Empathy and Altruism Research at the University of Michigan. Narcissism is a trait that exhibits” grandiose” and” larger-than-life ” personality traits. When it is extreme it is considered a mental personality disorder. Narcissistic people tend to overestimate their intelligence, attractiveness, and other personality traits. They do not enjoy relationships with others because they are short on empathy and high on hostility. In the study researchers found that men who would be considered narcissist had 2.5 times the stress hormone cortisol than their female counterparts who are also considered narcissist. So, it is likely that men who are narcissistic suffer stress more than women who are narcissistic. This study is interesting because as more men choose to pay attention to their appearance most would not want to be categorized as narcissistic. Dr. Stuart Kincaid assures his male patients that making an effort to maintain their most youthful appearance is not an act of narcissism. Many men decide to use non-invasive injectable products including Botox, and fillers including Restylane and the long-term filler Sculptra. Dr. Stuart Kincaid is a member of the Liquid Facelift Association and considered an expert injector. Men should not hesitate to treat the signs of aging or fear that they may be perceived in a negative light.

Plastic surgery blog: Ladies nod is not always a yes

dating couple2 Plastic surgery blog: Ladies nod is not always a yes

We don’t need a lesson in anatomy to understand that men and women are different. Communication between men and women has been the source of many relationship articles and documentaries. A recent Psychology Today online article highlighted the mixed signals that could be sent by the nod of a woman interpreted by a man. According to the article when a man notices a woman’s nod in response to his information he interprets it as her being in agreement with him. The woman on the other hand, may only be conveying that she understands what he is saying and hears him clearly. This can be a misunderstanding that could be blown out of proportion if in fact the man believes she agrees and she then tells him that she does not. The article stresses that women should not abandon what is innate which the nod of approval; however, they should understand that men may interpret it as their agreement to what he is saying. Dr. Stuart Kincaid has been awarded a host of accolades because of his commitment to patient satisfaction. Effective patient communication is critical to a positive patient experience. Dr. Stuart Kincaid and his staff are committed to understanding not only what the patient is communicating but also asking the right questions to determine the expectations of the patient. Procedures such as breast augmentation which not only require a decision to have the procedure, but also a preference of size, shape and type of implant are heavily dependent upon effective communication. Dr. Stuart Kincaid enjoys a robust referral practice because he is empathetic to his patient’s needs and desires.

Plastic surgery blog: Is pain equal for men and women?

January 23rd, 2012

shoulder pain Plastic surgery blog: Is pain equal for men and women?

The common belief held among most people is that pain is gender neutral. The idea is that women and men both feel pain equally. When we consider the tolerance of pain most people believe that women can tolerate more pain because of their ability to bear children. A recent Channel 10 news story highlighted a study that indicated that women may in fact feel more pain than men. According to the article in the largest study of its kind, Stanford researchers analyzed electronic medical records for ratings of pain, and found that women tend to report greater amounts of pain in a variety of diagnoses. They report their results in the Journal of Pain.  The thought is that women are more vocal concerning their pain, however some experts believe the study may show that women have pain that goes under diagnosed and under treated. Dr. Stuart Kincaid is sensitive to the fear that some women have concerning the pain they may feel after having cosmetic plastic surgery. Dr. Stuart Kincaid and his staff go to great lengths to help assure patients that they are committed to making sure patients are comfortable and the associated pain is managed safely and effectively. Procedures such as breast augmentation and abdominoplasty which involve interrupting the muscle, tend to cause the most pain and discomfort. In most cases patients are prescribed both a muscle relaxer as well as narcotic pain medication to help manage the pain. In the overwhelming majority of patients this combination of medication is more than adequate. Patients who are hesitant must remember that the overwhelming majority of patients who have had cosmetic surgery procedures say that they are extremely happy and would have the procedures again even with the knowledge of the pain they have endured.

Plastic surgery blog:Routine Health screening for women should be routine

January 20th, 2012

beautiful middle aged woman6 Plastic surgery blog:Routine Health screening for women should be routine

As we age routine health screenings can make a critical difference in early diagnosis of certain diseases as well as successful treatment. Although women are more likely to visit the doctor on a more regular basis than men, it is difficult for many women to maintain their regular appointments with such busy schedules. According to a recent local Channel 10 news story the recommendations for screening test for women are straightforward. They include pelvic and gynecological exams annually. Blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes screenings are also recommended with an annual physical. Bone and mineral density testing are recommended annually as well as testing for sexually transmitted diseases for women who are sexually active. Cancer screening is recommended after 50 annually. The screening test for breast cancer which is monthly breast self-examination and annual mammograms are often discussed with Dr. Stuart Kincaid’s patients. Patients are questioned during their initial consultation concerning their last mammogram as well as their participation in monthly breast self-exams. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains the importance of breast self-examination because every patient should be familiar with their breast tissue so that they may be able to note any changes that they find. Breast augmentation patients who are considering breast implants whether saline or silicone should be proactive about their general health including breast health. Patients who have had breast reduction surgery or breast lift surgery must also remain diligent concerning their breast health.  As their incisions heal and scar tissue is present, patients should be aware of what the breast tissue feels like, and how to detect the difference between scar tissue and something else they may feel that could be of concern. Dr. Stuart Kincaid is committed and available to his patients to be sure that they not only enjoy their great breast augmentation results but that they also understand the importance of maintaining good breast health.   Become a Fan on Facebook   Follow us on Twitter  More on Dr.Kincaid

Plastic surgery blog:Melanoma Drug May Cause Additional Skin Cancer

January 19th, 2012

skin cancer 2 Plastic surgery blog:Melanoma Drug May Cause Additional Skin CancerAs science continues to research new and better treatments for melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer doctors keep a close eye on side effects of medications. According to a USA Today article the recently approved drug vemurafenib (Zelboraf) has been hailed as a breakthrough in the treatment of melanoma. Of concern to the medical community, is that roughly one-quarter of patients who take the medication develop a troublesome side effect: secondary skin cancers called squamous cell carcinomas. Researchers at the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of California, Los Angeles, and colleagues identified the specific genetic mechanism that causes this side effect. Needless to say any treatment that would spurn another form of skin cancer would not be one that would be considered an excellent solution. In sunny San Diego the occurrence of skin cancer is not only likely but it is common. Dr. Stuart Kincaid urges his patients to take healthy skin care seriously as an important part of their overall healthcare. Healthy skin care requires a commitment to first and foremost, sunscreen on a daily basis. Patients are also advised to take advantage of medical grade skin care treatments and products. Dr. Stuart Kincaid offers IPL treatments which are extremely effective at removing dark spots some call aging spots. Laser resurfacing can also be very effective in maintaining a healthy glow to the skin and ridding the skin of  dry and flaky skin that can make a patient’s skin seem lifeless. Most patients who experience skin cancer do not have the most deadly form; however early diagnosis is critical for all skin cancer. Dr. Stuart Kincaid recommends patients have an annual checkup to analyze the skin, check for and remove any suspicious areas

Plastic surgery blog: FDA to weigh in on tobacco lozenges

January 18th, 2012

effects of smoking on skin2 Plastic surgery blog: FDA to weigh in on tobacco lozenges  In our health-conscious country fortunately our government has made strong efforts to not only ban smoking in most places, but also heavily regulate the use of tobacco. It is undisputed that tobacco use is hazardous to our health. According to a  recent online article the FDA is set to weigh in on the safety of tobacco lozenges which are used to help smokers who want to smoke in places where they are not allowed to smoke. According to the article the safety and risks of “dissolvables” are the subject of a three-day U.S. Food and Drug Administration meeting this week.  ”Dissolvables” are flavored mints, strips and sticks of smokeless tobacco. These products are not stop-smoking aids. Instead, they are designed to allow people to satisfy their cravings for nicotine in places where smoking is banned. Dr. Thomas Glynn, director of cancer science and trends at the American Cancer Society, said there are many unknowns about dissolvable tobacco products. “At this point, we don’t know the full range of what is in them,” he said. “I don’t see any potential in these dissolvable products other than to keep people smoking.” These products are of concern to Dr. Stuart Kincaid because the risk associated with smoking and surgery are primarily connected to the use of nicotine products. Patients who utilize smokeless tobacco, nicotine patches, or other devices that contain tobacco are at no less risk than actual cigarette smokers. Dr. Stuart Kincaid informs every new surgery patient during the preoperative process of the specific risk and complications related to patients who smoke. Procedures such as facelift, breast lift, and thigh lift are just a few of the procedures that are specifically of interes,t because of the amount of tension needed to hold together incisions when lifting the skin. Putting tension on skin that is compromised because of prolonged tobacco use can cause delayed wound healing and scarring that is less than aesthetically pleasing. The best case scenario is for patients not to smoke or use tobacco products at all. But, if they are using tobacco products abstaining from those products for a minimum of three weeks prior to surgery and four weeks after surgery is the very minimum recommendation advised. Dr. Stuart Kincaid is committed to helping patients who desire cosmetic plastic surgery and need help to quit the use of tobacco products prior to surgery. Dr. Stuart Kincaid’s patients are intended to be patients for a lifetime so; he and his staff are willing to help patients throughout the entire process                                            Become a Fan on Facebook     Follow us on Twitter  More on Dr.Kincaid

Plastic surgery blog: Exergames; keeping the brain healthy

January 17th, 2012

older woman braces Plastic surgery blog: Exergames; keeping the brain healthy

We’ve all been told to exercise our bodies in order to benefit are health and mobility. But, as part of the aging process studies now show that it is just as important to exercise our minds and our brains to be more specific. According to Channel 10 news physical exercise is critical to keeping our brains healthy, preventing or slowing the progression of cognitive decline that can lead to dementia, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Unfortunately the CDC estimates that only 14% of adults aged 65 to 74, and 4% of adults over 75, exercise regularly. The goal was to find out if seniors can benefit from interactive exercise games on gaming devices like the WI or Xbox. The study showed that seniors benefited greatly by engaging their mind along with physical activity. Dr. Stuart Kincaid embraces the baby boomer generation through the aging process, as they now are more active than ever before. Age alone is no longer a factor in disqualifying a patient from having cosmetic plastic surgery. Previously patients would feel as though they were too old to make a substantial investment in their appearance. These days, with people living much longer;especially women, there is no reason for a healthy patient not to consider cosmetic plastic surgery. Some of the most popular procedures for older patients include facelift, blepharoplastybrow lift and liposuction. An investment in your appearance is never wasted because of age.

Plastic surgery blog:Red wine benefits may have been falsified

January 16th, 2012

images Wine Tasting1 Plastic surgery blog:Red wine benefits may have been falsified

Most of us were thrilled to hear the medicinal benefits of red wine. Now an alarming report says that the foremost authority on red wine benefits may have falsified his research results. According to the Los Angeles Times a University of Connecticut researcher who worked on the health benefits of a chemical in red wine fabricated data in 145 separate research projects, a three-year investigation has found.
University officials have notified 11 scientific journal studies co-authored by Dipak Das, whose work focused on whether resveratrol — an antioxidant found in grape skin — can prevent coronary heart disease or kill cancer cells, according to the Boston Herald. Based on this research and subsequent marketing, many consumers began to drink red wine as often as they could. Many consumers believe that any negative health effects from wine would pale in comparison to the heart benefits they were led to believe existed in red wine. Now, with that research in question many consumers will be forced to reconsider whether red wine is worth the negative effects which include first and foremost what we call empty calories. This means the calories are consumed have little to no health benefits for the patient. Dr. Stuart Kincaid explains to his patients that especially after 40 when most people have a slower metabolism, regular consumption of wine can pack on the pounds especially along the waistline. Dr. Stuart Kincaid advises patients as soon as they begin to see an increase in their waistline that cannot be lost to diet exercise they should consider liposuction. Liposuction helps to trim and remove small fat deposits that can cause a thickness in the waistline. If there is loose skin on the abdomen Dr. Stuart Kincaid may recommend an abdominoplasty.  Body contouring patients must be good about diet and exercise in order to maintain their excellent results for a lifetime.

Plastic surgery blog:Pain relievers and cosmetic plastic surgery

January 13th, 2012

Daravon Pain Medication1 Plastic surgery blog:Pain relievers and cosmetic plastic surgery

Pain relievers have a history that goes back to the beginning of recorded humanity. It is the nature of human beings to avoid pain; thus the need for ways to relieve the pain many people associate with all types of surgery. Pain relievers throughout history have not changed very much. According to a recent article in Psychology Today pain relievers were a major improvement when they were introduced to the market in the 1800s. According to the article 1898, marked the introduction of the acetylation of salicylic acid and morphine and produced the respective drugs, aspirin and heroin. These went on to have a huge impact on the next hundred years, with aspirin becoming the most popular legal drug in history, and heroin the most popular illegal drug in history. Needless to say, aspirin worked but the consumer liked heroin better. As the years progressed the medical community noted the addictive properties of heroin and it was eventually pulled off the market, and by1924 the manufacture and use of heroin was banned completely. Aspirin was still used however these days it is more for the purpose of medical benefits for the heart. Finding pain relief can be difficult for patients who suffer from chronic pain. Patients  who are considering cosmetic plastic surgery should know that the typical procedures performed by accredited and experienced board-certified plastic surgeons are not considered particularly painful. Most patients rating the pain would average out to what would be considered as moderate when looking at all elective plastic surgery procedures performed. Dr. Stuart Kincaid and his staff are careful to have extensive communication with their patients concerning any fears they have of pain and are committed to helping them understand what they can expect. Some procedures tend to be a little more difficult with respect to pain than others however these are usually procedures that take longer to perform and are more invasive. These procedures include facelift, abdominoplasty, and bodylifts. Breast augmentation can also be moderately painful when implants are placed behind the muscle. Dr. Stuart Kincaid assures patients that they will be given prescription strength pain medication to help manage the pain and since patients recover from cosmetic plastic surgery relatively quickly, most patients utilize the pain medication for a very short period of time. Dr. Stuart Kincaid maintains an excellent reputation by maintaining excellent communication with his patients. By committing to this standard it helps to assure that patients are not experiencing unnecessary and undue pain and discomfort.
